Do you Heel Shift ? Or is it just me.

Hello all,

I was asking around my HOG chapter and much to my surprise, I am one of the only members that actually uses the Heel shifter. Even a couple of them have removed it from their bikes. I found this quiet amazing as this aspect was a big selling point for me. And after owning my SG for a couple months I am absolutely loving it. Use it every time I up shift. Keeps from scuffing up the top of my left boot, as the only time I use the underside of the toe shifter is to put the bike into neutral.

So can I ask you guys? how many of you use it? How many of you do not? Why do you or don't you?

just trying to understand why you wouldn't use it. it is there for a reason, right?

I removed it from my bike, never used it, I've always used a toe shifter.

I too have removed the heel shifter on my Street Glide as did my business partner on his Road Glide. I personally always seemed to forget about it when it was installed so I took it off to get a little 'cleaner' install when I purchased Battinini Wireframe foot controls.

When I first used a heel shifter a few years ago I hated it at first. It's such a big change from years of riding with just a toe shifter. BUT I got used to it and love it now. No way I would go back.

I've never had one in 25 years of riding until the street glide. At first it was weird. Took me 2 or 3 rides to get used to it. I love it. Don't have to wear riding boots or worry about scuffing or ripping my shoe.

I still have it on my bike and use is .05%.....probably most of us have been riding using toe shifter for many years so it's very hard to get used to. But it's not in my way so I don't bother removing it.

On my SG and now my RGU I have NEVER used the toe shifter. From the 1st shift and then on was with the heel only.

I use mine heel/toe shifter and love it! I only toe shifted when I was on a sport bike.

First street glide bought 2016. Didn't realize either until
I read your post that some don't use. I use mine all the time and love it. Found it easier to change gears. Harley's don't shift as easy.

I tryed it and it was ok. But I kept forgetting about it so off it came

16 CVO
Freedom Exhaust
Thundermax Tuner
S&S Stealth Air

I use the heel shift, but had to install extended levers to get my foot to fit. I also use the H-D extended reach footboards. This puts the heel shifter just behind the footboard so you don't loose any space on the footboard.

I always remove the heel shifter, it's just in the way for me.

I use my heal shifter all the time and would be lost without it now. Had a friend tell me it's like spurring a horse so just get it when your ready and that's what I do. I know some people remove it for room but I wear a 10,5 size boot and it works for me. Spend some time getting used to it before you remove and you may find out you like it. I Love mine.

I'm in Hawaii, I often ride with shorts and slippers. The Heel Toe Shifter is a must for me.

I had never had a bike with heel toe shift so I took advice from the believers and gave it a few days to get used to. A year later I am still using it.
