Fairing vent noise/rattle

What a timely thread! Just Saturday I had my service mgr order me a new vent assembly under warranty. You know the saying about the squeaky wheel getting the grease? HD knows about this problem but only acknowledges it when customers complain. Here is the problem;
The little vent door the opens and closes is made from very thin plastic. Some warp to where they vibrate as the airflow passes over them and they start to buzz from vibration. Mine sounded more like a continuous fart until I finally took clear 2 in. packing tape and taped it open. The buzz went away but it does rain here and if you can't shut the vent it will get messy. Hence the warranty claim. I hope this helps!

Thanks for the information. It's been pretty stormy here with rain forcasted for most of the week. I will head to the dealer when the weather and time allows. Let me know how it works out for you, hoepfully it will be a fix for the vent annoyance.

I'm just curious as to those with the rattle problem. Have you guys switched windshields and had the problem after or are you still running stock windshields?

I have the rattle even after a 7.5" Windsplitter.... I have yet to take it apart and fix it. Weather is too nice not to ride.. I just turn the tunes up.... lol!!
I was just wondering if replacing the windshield might be a cause of the rattle? Just get a little throttle heavy and drown it out with exhaust!

FYI- My dealer only ordered the button!
I told them that wasn't going to get it done. He showed me the parts diagram for the whole thing and there are lots of pieces to it. I thought it came as a single assembly. He h/.as now also ordered the vent flap itself.

Fairing vent noise/rattle
My thing is what's the use of having another flap/door put on when chances are it will also make the same sound sooner or later ?
I find it surprising that only one person has said something about a new flap with the rubber trim.
Is this a updated part or something his dealer did to eliminate the noise.

Mines due for the 1K mile service so they will be hearing about the buzzing noise.

I was at the dealer today and the service dept. is calling HD tomorrow to see what they have to say about it.
Was to late when I got there to call them today.
He said the same as some others this was the first he's heard of it.
I got my phone out and showed him this and a few other threads about the fairing vent.
Not that he was all that interested in reading them.

The service dept manager took my SGS for a short ride today and once he returned said they will be replacing the complete fairing vent assembly.
They will be giving me a call when it comes in.......Good Business !
