So I'm looking at changing out my head pipe and also installing a stage 1 A/C would these FL-Vied's I have heard about be enough to take care of the tuning with these mods or should I get a tuner instead or just get the stage 1 tune download from my HD dealer or both ? Not looking to add a bunch of HP just want to make sure the tune is safe for the motor with these mods without breaking the bank ! I have other mods (cosmetic) I want to do so if I don't have to drop $300 plus on a tuner right now I don't want to

Can't tell you much on the FL-Vied, I run a Power Vision and love it. Me personally I would spend the money for a good tuner, there are several out there.

Here's what H-D has to say: "Installation of Screamin’ Eagle® products, and similar off-road or competition products from other manufacturers, except some street-legal offerings installed by authorized Harley® dealers, may void your H-D® limited vehicle warranty."

I bought an extended service contract so I went with the H-D dealer installed download tune to keep my 7 year warranty good. My bike runs great.

Notice they say "may". Under the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act , the motor co. would have to prove the item installed made the motor/bike fail.

I ran the VIED with stock headpipe, stock AC and slip-ons. It is good for up to 6% more AFR over stock and adjustable. All is does is richen up the AFR across all ranges... no variance. It is put inline of the O2 sensors to trick the ECM into richening up the AFR .

It's a good and handy item... if you don't feel it does the trick, you can sell it and buy a tuner. It worked for me.

Now that being said... I am not sure if running a high-flow AC and de-cat headerpipe ( or aftermarket header ) would get enough out of the VIED...

Look into the FP3 ( Vance and Hines Fuel Pak 3 ) I run one now on a full stage I and could not be happier. IF you have any Q's after you have read thru ALL the threads on the FP3.... hit me up and I will attempt to answer your Q's... I have been playing with the FP3 since I got it in May and love it!

Dealing with the "may not warranty" plus paying for a head pipe and tuner to get 5 HP is just not worth it to me. I would consider selling the stock motor and putting in a 120R. No warranty there either but one hell of a ride!

FYI RE: Warranty . . . . . .
My HD Dealer sold me and installed my exhaust system. My Service manager told me by doing that, THEY would honor my warranty. Just in case there might be an issue they told me to hold onto stock system. I have . . . BTW, after running this scoot for about a year now I can honestly say I have never had any issues with mine. And, I've done my own 1k, 5k and recently 10k.

I don't know but 5 hp on a bike that only makes around 70 HP or so to begin with is a nice boost in HP I think. Plus changing the head pipe is also so I can get rid of the stock cat by doing that I can get my bike sounding the way I want it and get rid of some heat for ride comfort these mods are not just about making HP.
Not really sure what I'm going to do yet I may just leave the performance mods for later when my warranty runs out and just work on getting it to look the way I want for now

True, there is a significant gain in power and sound output, however, that extra power is mostly above 4500 rpm and at wide open throttle. I must be getting slow because I just don't wind the motor past 4500 rpm too often.

Really? That's like my shifting point all the time. I feel like I am flogging the motor if I run a shift point any less. I know I am not, it just feels that way.

I shift near 4500 rpm often, just not past there a lot. I do have to say, the motor revs out very nicely to 6000 and I shift close to that if I'm getting on it to pass or just have some fun.

Indeed... I feel that above 4000 rpms that she performs much better in every aspect. I don't 'putt' around at all at low rpms... never have. I like to able to have that 'snap' immediately if I need it for evasive maneuvering that so often I perform when dodging cages too busy on their fricken cells.

Agree with that...plus, mine seems like a dog if I let it get down to 2 grand. I have hit what I assume is the rev limiter a few times..not noticing that I am around 6000+ before shifting and it "cuts out" momentarily to remind me to pay attention.

Same here losbright1. Mine does NOT like RPM's below 2,000 in any gear, it has a nice "lope" to it below there. Must be the cams.

Here's a typical stage one motor dyno graph. There's good torque starting at 3000 rpm and good power above 4000 rpm. You will always accelerate quickest in a lower gear at rpm's approaching redline.

For real Spazz? Damn, I'm shifting normally around 3000-3500 unless I'm effing around. Wow, I'm like a geezer or something. Don't hold it against me.

I'm not kidding... and im not the only one on this forum either. I love the snap she has over 4000..

I was watching a bit today... i was shifting around 4500 ... give or take... just know my rev limiter is set at 6200

I am with Spazz on this one I personally shift around 5,000 on normal shifts and then right before rev limiter if I'm screwing around which is at 6,400. (But then again mine is in the shop so maybe I am doing it wrong lol)

Jesus, even the geezer shifter is shifting higher than me... I'm usually jumping up a notch when I hit 2000 when I'm riding normally... I suppose I can reconsider my shift points...

It's not a 'requirement' or 'recommendation'... it's just a personal preference for me ( and BaggerJay ) We have ridden together a few times and found it pretty cool to have similar riding styles as most don't ride like we do.... I have to throw Joker into this... he also rides the same as me since we ride together at least 3-4 times a week.

The only thing that will come from your considerations is options.... it won't hurt to try... some like it... some don't... it's the nature of the beast.

The change in shifting preference may or will also change how you ride ( hence, my riding style requires my shifting habits ) DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT sums it up for me. I don't think I have EVER babied a vehicle... two or four wheels. EXAMPLE is our 2013 Subaru LOVES 5000 rpms and above... I can't drive it any other way.... it's not 'fun'.
