Long story short, I started with a metric and moved into the big leagues with a '15 Softail Slim. Loved the bike, but wanted more wind protection and creature comforts, so I overcame the "Geezer" claims and traded for a band spankin' new 16' StreetGlide Special!

So far, I've added the following:
-HD Adjustable Rider Backrest
-HD 4-Point Docking Hardware (Black)
-Medium Sissy Bar (Black) and Passenger Backrest

On order:
-D&D Boss Fatcat Exhaust (Black)
-Arlen Ness Big Sucker A/C
-SERT Tuner

Looking to keep a nice balanced contrast between blacked-out stealth with chrome motor components and a select few accessories.

Any input is appreciated.. Looking forward to more recommendations from the helpful (and sometimes biased) crew at the forum!

Welcome from Greensboro, NC. You've made a good decision going with the SGS. Once you get the right windshield and possibly the fork wind deflectors (for cold weather riding) you'll be set.

Iron Horse I have to agree with the selection, it's nice to take long rides to nowhere and never question my comfort.. I am looking to add a taller windshield that will hopefully not take from the lines of the bike. So far so good with the fairing and a Gerbings vest in MA, it's a luxury to have 500 miles of weekend riding by April around these parts.

I highly recommend Freedom Shields. I have the 5" dark smoke on mine. I'm 6'2" and don't feel anything around 80.

Welcome from Nashville to SGF ! I heartily recommend the Fork deflectors and a windshield with the recurve option at the top. This kills buffeting quite nicely!

Thanks ALittleton, I will certainly be making that upgrade sooner than later and have heard good things about the Freedom Shields. The fairing is already a great improvement over my lack of protection on the slim, and the elimination of buffeting would make the ride smooth as eggs.

How do you like those ape hangers? I'm 6'0" and have been toying with the idea but have never ridden a bike with any installed.

BTW bada$$ bike!

Thanks for the recommendation Mojo! I've been deciding whether to spring for lower fairings but haven't given the fork deflectors much thought. Maybe I'll have to try them together before my 30-day 15% discount at the stealership runs out.

SouthcoastSG- They're ugly but well worth it for buffeting control.

Welcome and great color - your on order list is about to get longer if you hang around here!!

Welcome to the fun and nice color. Good luck and have fun with your future mods

Definitely Freedom Shields. Very good quality and great customer service.

I love them. Definitely better over stock. They're 12" Yaffe Monkey Bars. I'm 6'2 and they're fine. You will have to stretch a bit if you want to turn the bars completely, but hasn't been an issue for me.

After a few recommendations I decided to try out the 5" dark smoke Freedom Shield.. It's definitely a plus that they allow you to test them out and exchange if you don't like 'em. I wish that was available for Exhausts.. the world would be a more stress-free place!

I'm on the fence to pull the trigger on the 12" MB set-up.. I assume it was necessary to buy extensions? It seems like some threads are back and forth on this topic for the 12".

I've read you can do it without them but it requires rerouting wires. I didn't want to do that and bought the 8" NAMZ extensions. I recommend the 12" just to make it easier. It's not much more expensive.

One perk to going 12" is that you will have full use of your mirrors. I have no regrets.

They make look high but they really aren't. I probably could comfortably ride with 14's too

that's one thing I've been wondering.. they look high but there are plenty of shorter guys using these bars with no problems. you've definitely pushed me over the fence to invest, I guess it's between the 12s and 14s now.
