Glare from the center console

Not sure anyone else has this problem, but here in AZ the sun is so bright and intense, I am getting glare off the center tank console that nearly blinds me. I have to ride with my hand covering the fuel door  (I ride with a helmet with a smoked face shield and sunglasses). Aside from changing the chrome console to black, any other ideas?

Thanks,

I have lived in the Southeast all my life. Sunshine is a glorious part of our daily life. I understand glare from bike parts in front of you. That is another reason I did not like the SG Special. The high gloss paint on the inside of the fairing could be blinding. The SG Standard paint is flat. If your glare problem seems to be the fuel door, you might want to change it for one with medallions, engravings, or a flat color paint....anything to break up the glare. HD sells doors with emblems. They look pretty good too.

What Bones and TomA said. Changed my fuel door and it helped breakup the glare off of it.

Agree. I love the flat black of my standard SG. Of course many folks have color matched inner-fairings loaded with chrome bezels and such and while it may look nice I don't see it as practical at all.
As Bones suggested Harley offers replacement fuel doors in different iterations. There are places that wrap vehicles with plastic of various design. Maybe you could have your tank cover and console wrapped with a funky design

I had same prob
But going with my contrast Black and Chrome/Aluminum theme I had the whole console powder coated gloss Black with a contrast cut insert and switch housing
Good luck

I like the way that gloss black center looks, that might have to be on my short list for my birthday. I have been blacking everything that's chrome on mine, but it's amazing how expensive it gets.............

Tried a flat black fuel door and it helped but still lots of glare from the console. So, I got some flat black final car wrap and covered the console. It's temporary but it works great.

I had the same problem here in Florida.. Replaced the fuel door with Willie G Skull.. Just enough to break the glare .. And the skull is prettier than the ugly mug staring at me with the stock door

Yup - I like the current billet contrast cut items. Here are a few with a Performance Machine fuel door that matches the Arlen Ness inverted air filter and Avon grips, etc. Hated the shiny chrome dome on the fuel filler door and derby cover.
