I have a 2015 SG w/ Screamin Eagle Stage 1 air cleaner, RC Xhaust slipons, and a Power Vision (CAN) Tune. My dealer suggested the Power Vision tune over HD tuning. It was not dyno tuned, just a Canned tune. It is just a download. I do not have the black box.

Today I was on a ride w/ several of my buddies. One of which has a 2015 SG w/ slipons only. With having the upgraded air cleaner and a tune, I thought I would pull him easily. We were side by side and in the same gear (4th). Counted down and he just walked away from me. WTF?! So we did it again, this time in 3rd gear. Same thing happened.

I just don't understand how this is possible. I have more go fast parts on mine and I lost by a length.

I'm at a loss for words. I plan on calling the dealer that tuned it and see what they got to say.

ANY THOUGHTS???

Canned tunes are just that... CANNED. Sometimes they work great... and..... sometimes not. You gotta throw in elevation in the equation too... if a tune is created at sea level... how do you think it will run at 5000 ft? I'm not a scientist by any means... but I can tell you that my SGS runs MUCH better in Reno than Sac.... same goes for my RGS.... I can't put my finger on it, but it's the truth... there is a couple thousand ft difference in elevation that I can notice a change.

Try an autotune with your PV.... you may get better results... or just get a dyno. I am sure you will notice a huge diffference.

Thought? Sure.

First, do you guys weigh the same? Also, any aero parts differences (i.e. windscreens)?

Second, your "go fast parts" are mostly only going to help higher rpm breathing and get rid of that midrange "hole" the 103 has. So, if you started in 4th at low rpms and depending on how far/fast you got, might see the diff?

Third, you might be breathing in MORE air, but if very warm/hot, engine might be pulling some timing if a hot day vs. his stock/sealed setup.

Hey, I'm just down in Cincy from you up in Dayton. I'm also on a 2015 SGS with slip ons, Arlen Ness inverted breather and FP3 tune. We can do the same/test anytime! All 3 might make very interesting at that.

I know a canned tune will only get you so far. With a stage 1 setup, I expected to pull a stock bike, at least have some tread in front of his. Far as weight- He may have had a quarter tank less; I weigh probably 40 lbs more than he does. Other than that, no addition physical mods. With the tune & air cleaner, I would have expected to at least be side by side.

We were in 4th gear (thinking 2k rpm) @ about 50 mph and we ran the gear out. It was rather cool out when we ran em, air temp wasn't an issue.

Another buddy on the ride thought the tune could have been setup for more low rpm grunt, it's a thought.

I would not count the air cleaner as a go fast part since the stock air cleaner probably lets in as much air as the engine needs in a stage one setup.
Your exhaust is only going to flow so much with the cat head pipe still installed.
If they used a canned Power Vision tune it's probably from Dynojet, get one from Fuel Moto like I did, my bike runs great. Get the power Vision box so you can fine tune (auto tune) the map. Lose some weight and run with less gas.

I get all that. We are pretty much are apples to apples w/ exception of the tune & air cleaner. He pulled a full bike length. Just didn't expect that at all.

You say you weigh 40lbs more. Generally 10lbs difference equals 1hp that is to say 40lbs = 4 hp lost to him and that is about the hp difference a high flow air filter will make at most. How much weight in your bags compared to his? Etc. Also agree with the above suggestions

A stage 1 only really isn't going to put a lot more power in the bike. I have an 08 flht 96" air cleaner dual rineharts, and SE pro tuner. My buddy has an 06 road king classic dual v&h pipes air cleaner and fuel pak. We did the same thing one time and we were pretty dead even. I was impressed his 88 kept up with the 96.
Now when I had my sporty I would walk him all day long. But that's a different story!!!!

There's more to getting lower out of the bikes than just a stage 1.

When you put it on a Dyno. You will find your peak HP and Torque will be in the 3900 to 4400 range

I just did a header pipe, mufflers, air cleaner and PCV tuner. The bike definitely runs better and pulls harder without the tuner, but it runs a little lean. I'm probably going to add the auto tuner. i tried a map from Fuel Moto and one from Dynojet. The one from Dynojet runs a little better, but neither one runs better than stock.

Update: called the dealer. Gave him all the details yall got. we both agreed a tune is no a huge power gain but we should have at least hung w/ him. instead he pulled me from the get go. hes gonna tweak the tune & see how that does. other than that sticking it on a dyno & doing a full dyno tune is the other option, which will cost me more $$$. I'll update when the new tune is done. Thanks for the input!

Found out me & my buddy are 20 lbs apart.

Plug the stock ECM back in and see if it's better without the tuner. See if you can sided by side with the same guy. I don't have to go on the dyno to tell that mine pulls harder without the tuner. The only downside is the lean pop. I'm thinking about making a zero map with a little fuel added at 0 and 2% to kill the lean pop...Or just pull the trigger on the auto tuner.

Go with your autotune plan... that is your best bet other than a full dyno tune.

What exhaust you running and did you mod anything else other than the RCX's

If you did a decat? Or full aftermarket headpipe and cans? This Can make difference

That's what I figured as well. A ride on the dyno is going to cost about what the auto tuner costs and the auto tuner will compensate for any other mechanical changes and altitude if we go to the mountains. Dynojet even said that they would recommend a pro tune if I install a blower just to get a base line, but after that the auto tuner would keep up with any changes.

I have not done anything else. Slipon RCX's & the SE stage 1 a/c. Header pipes are stock w/ cats.

Can you flash the stock map back into it? Mine runs and smalls like it's WAY too rich under hard acceleration. That's just robbing power.

I do not have a way to put the stock tune back on it. The dealer flashed it. I'm going to give him another chance to get the tune right. Not exactly sure what I'll do from there yet. Knowing myself, I'll probably just throw it on a roller and get it done right.

Fuel Moto for a tuner unlimited map support.

Hey Velopod, I live in Fairfield, we can help him test that out. Let him stop in to Tri-County H.D. and talk to Brandon the Service Manager, he can shoot him a straight answer.
