Hope you guys can help me out. I really don'y like to ride without a helmet, but the last couple halfs I have bought bounce around so much I have a headache after riding. I cannot seem to find one that doesn't buffer around 75mph.

The problem "may" not be the helmet......You may have too much air going over the windshield. Have you looked into changing the windshield to a taller one? Do you get buffering with a full face or 3/4 helmet? If so, changing helmets won't solve the problem. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks, guys. I'm riding a 2012 SG flhx. I am not sure what shield is on it...I bought the bike used. I have not considered a taller one. I find myself having to look over this one if that makes sense. It's tinted. I have never ridden it with a full face helmet. Just the half and none at all.

i come from a state where I grew up not wearing a helmet, I have always hated it now I live in Washington and as required by law I have one. Well I had a wreck a few years ago and with out a helmet I would of died so I'll never ride with out one now. So I searched a lot to find a light weight comfortable DOT approved helmet and the link below is the best I've found. It sits low fits nice to ur head so it doesn't move around at all, and doesn't have a lip on it so the wind doesn't catch it. Seriously best helmet I've ever owned.

I echo other replies in as much as buffeting isn't resultant of a poor fitting or designed helmet but rather from wind turbulating around the helmet causing the intermittent head flexation to and fro. Fix the wind issue and the buffeting will be substantially minimized. Also, on the SG you should be looking over (and not through) the windshield. Correct top-of-windshield height alignment when sitting in your normal riding position should be about even with your nose. Also, do a search for fork fangs on this site as, when installed, they also aid substantially at reducing wind buffeting.

Quick side note on my previous response, I had a 96 softail custom I rode before I bought my SG and with the wind hitting me the helmet I talked about was great and didn't float around on my head. With that being said I bought the SG for the comfort of the ride as I am getting older and the other posts are right windshield height does make a huge difference. With that being said I still love my helmet, beats having mushroom head or having to wear a full face.

Another question, does your helmet fit you? If it's to large or the wrong shape for your head, you will have issues. Also, the chin strap needs to be tight, if it is loose, air can lift the helmet and cause the issues you are describing.
Air management on the bike is another thing that can help, both a proper windscreen, and managing the air that comes up from below the fairing and fuel tank.

Re the helmet. I picked up a Harley Overdrive half helmet and very happy with the fit and no buffeting.

But... I also have a taller Long Ride shield and added fugly fangs. Those two things have created a great ride!

Buffeting can be a number of things ... But a great half helmet is the bell pit boss ... Adjusts to the back of your head ... Stays snug.

I 2nd the Pit Boss. I own one and have no buffeting. It is very comfortable and I can ride 8 hours with no headaches. I have a 2016 SGs changed the windshield to a Klockwerks 5.5. I do get a small amount of buffeting with my Shoei RF-1200 full face helmet. I'm 5.11

With the standard windshield the buffetting would tear off my sunglasses with a half Helmut. I'm 5'10" and with an 8" windshield the air hits the top of my helmut not bad but for touring I'll go with a 10" that should eliminate all buffetting.

Will that helmet fit in a saddlebag? I have a Scorpian EXO 107 and I can't get it in the saddlebag.

Wife wears the Pit Boss I wear a Akoury AK-1 neither one fits in the saddlebags..

I could see the pit boss not fitting, but I would expect the ak-1 to fit.
I don't think I've worn my skid lid out on the highway, but it fits in the saddlebag (size medium)- also feels more secure on my head than the cheap Harley half I had before.
