Harley Dealer quit flashing head units?

So, I installed an amp and front speakers onto my Street Glide, and took it to the dealership to have it flashed. It's the Arc Moto 600.4 and I've noticed that most people say to flash this with the 2 amps on, 8 speakers. So, Saturday, I rode it to my local Harley dealership and they told me they were no longer able to do any flashes anymore. I thought this was strange, so I asked when this all happened, and he said Harley just sent it down about a week ago, and that they didn't have the option in their program anymore. Just wondering if anyone else has knowledge of this and if their just full of ****?

I guess this is different than the software updates they come out with every week? If it has something to do with that, they probably got tired of doing them, like I know I do!

I just bought that same amp from a sponsor here (no cage audio) and he says I won't need a flash or line levelers. Might want to hit him up and ask him how it's done. Mine shipped today so won't get it till later this week.

you want the J&M Corp flash it flattens all the crap curves harley uses to compensate for the cheap speakers. Check there web site.

I think this is something new mother Harley is trying to stop the downloads to charge more money. They still have the soft ware to do this but they are being advise not to. If you find the right sound system installer with the software can do this flash for you.

From what I understand the only way the stealership will flash a audio file is if you buy boom audio equipment. It's a way for Harley to stick it to the better sounding cheaper aftermarket setups.

It DOES sound like they're putting restrictions in place to cut down on aftermarket systems. However, These enterprising after market companies can and will figure out a way around all this!!!

They already did. Line levelers and soundz sells a flash tool but it's expensive.

To clarify things a bit... MOCO sent an update to all dealers to install in their Digital Technician (computer used to hook to bikes for various type of configurations changes) . This new update restricts the configuration for aftermarket amps.

There are tools on the market That will do the same thing... they are expensive and some indy shops have the capabilities to flash.... just have to fi d them in your area

WTF Harley!!! This really sucks. It was bad enough we had to go to the dealer to get a flash and now they are trying to restrict us on what we put on our bikes! I want to upgrade my system this year but know no indies that have that capability and can't get to any big rallies. How would the computer know if you're adding two boom amps and 8 boom speakers or a different brand. it seems as though it just sets output so what am I missing? I have been wanting a Level 4 system upgrade since I saw Spazz's video. Just bought the speaker lids and was looking to order in the next couple of weeks before Michigan weather lets me ride again. Very disappointing. Sorry for the rant.

Can someone educate me...I just purchased a basic system from one of our sponsors-No Cage Audio-and the system utilizes the Biketronics line leveler. In talking with Karl (NC), I could have also flashed the hu. So why not just use the line leveler for everything and avoid the flash? It's inexpensive-actually less than what my local dealer charges for a flash.

That's what I ended up doing. Ordered the BT Line Levelers.

Evans, with the Arc Audio 600.4 you don't need line levelers, I hook mine up without it and sounds great. I did have no cage audio send the plug and play harness with it too.

It's all about HD and the update... if you don't have boom amps connected.. it won't work...

You can still do it... you just need to find an indy close to you that has the capability.... call Peter @Soundz .... he may have info on an Indy near you to get the flash done.

BTW...I have 6 speakers now... lol ... yes... it's even louder!

Thanks Spazz,
I have checked out all your videos, not stalking, just research. It sounds like you did a lot before you bought and I'm the same way. I imagine the bike sounds even better in person, but the four speaker on video is incredible. The more I read up I knew it is the right move. It just sucks that instead of making a system everyone wants, Harley is trying to force their junk down our throats. I will be calling Peter soon. I am working on my suspension and need to get the lids painted. I looked at Soundz event calendar and see they will be in Ohio in May, hate to wait that long but if I must, I must. Thank you for helping me spend my money...correctly!!!

So, all you audio guys...any additional feedback? Is there a reason everyone doesn't simply use a line leveler and avoid the flash altogether?

The BT line Levelers are the answer to those who can't get a flash. Flash is better since it's done within the head unit and a cleaner signal.... but the line levelers have come a long way and work really well now. BT'S are the best one out there
