Has anyone figured out how to add a 3.5mm aux audio output headphone jack to BOOM BOX

I need to know for sure.....OEM HD Radio Bluetooth will pick up my LG HBS800 but will not play music from radio so I am not too certain HD OEM unit is compatible with many devices out there and I think it's proprietary reason.....so it'll be interesting to know what rrwz7c finds...!!!!

I actually bought a different receiver/transmitter, it was about $20 on amazon, I was able to plug in my phone to the bike usb and pair the receiver/transmitter to the phone. This was the only way I could get it to work. I was only able to change songs with the hand controls, no volume control. The receiver/transmitter would NOT pair with the bike.

Let me see if I understand you correctly, the transmitter/receiver that you bought from Amazon will pair up with your phone which you are able to use your OEM HD radio through it and change the songs around except able to control volume.....if so how and which unit from Amazon?

What will this kit do? I am looking to pair my LG Bluetooth headset to OEM radio and at this point there is no way to do it. Will this kit allows me to pair my LG headset to OEM through my iPhone? If so will it allow me to listen to OEM radio through my LG headset after pairing to my iPhone?

Yes, the device I got is August MR260B Dual Mode Bluetooth Transmitter & Receiver

It worked by pair to my phone as a receiver with my phone plugged into the bike radio USB. I plug my headphones into the receiver and I can hear the songs through my headphones and change them with the bikes hand controls.

I don't see how it would since this kit is for Audio input NOT output.

I thought so.....ok.....so without actually tearing the OEM radio to wire 3.5 jack there is no other way.......dang......ok, wait for HD to update the OEM radio for Bluetooth......probably be waiting for a LONG LONG time.....ugh!!!!!

Dragon- your most likely not going to see a Bluetooth update on this radio. Perhaps when HD comes out with the next hardware generation. We'll see . . . . . . .

I am totally afraid of that.....oh well......live & learn!

I am definitely going to write to HD about this.....not that they'll give a rats tail....at least I will feel better.....ROFLMBO!!!!!!

I was successful in adding a headphone jack to my bike that allows you to control volume, change songs, and navigation prompts through a hard wire 3.5mm jack. Works great. Special thanks to weeT for the wiring diagram. Here is the fix

You will need to connect the new audio cable to three wires located on a the 280A wire harness under the front fairing. I included a picture of my connections. Next is routing the wire. weeT routed his to the phone box on the fairing and used a male 3.5mm audio connection to plug into a Bluetooth transmitter. I ran my cable to the right side of my seat and used a female 3.5 mm audio connection to plug in headphones. To run the cable I had to remove the gas tank, which is pretty easy since my 2016 street glide has a quick disconnect fuel line. I will say pay attention to the routing of the vent and overfill hoses prior to removing so that you will know how to re-install them. There is a plastic cable tray under the gas tank that comes apart so you can easily route the new audio wires. I used 18 gauge wires. I bought the female audio connector from radio shack and soldered the cables, using heat shrink to isolate them after. I just zip tied the audio jack to the frame just under the front right side of the saddle, it is not visibly noticeable.

Hope this helps anyone wanting to use headphones. I use some custom molded headphones from ear inc. that work as hearing protection and are comfortable enough to wear on long rides.

Let me see if I understand this, so you are saying I don't need to disassemble the radio head unit and get inside to solder, instead I can splice wiring as shown and add 3.5mm jack?

Correct, there wires right under the front fairing they are black with pink strip, pink with green strip, pink with blue strip. I used blue quick splice connectors. This connects into the headset wires so you will need to change the settings on your radio to headset to be able to hear audio through the new jack. I took a ride yesterday and this worked great for me.

Wow, I will have to do this for sure then....if you don't mind can you post some picture of how/where you have it placed. I am going to place the jack on the fairing.

Thanks for the info!

I placed the 3.5 mm audio jack right under the saddle and zip tied it to the frame. It is difficult to see in the picture with the saddle on so I took one with it removed as well.

My dad has an older ultra and added a headphone jack to his aftermarket heat shield right about in the same spot. I know it works for him. I haven't taken a close look to see how its mounted to keep from melting due to heat.

Hope this helps.

You may get sound out of it, i would doubt it because the usb port is intended as an input for audio and other functions. At one point I tried connecting my phone to the usb port and then connecting my phone to a bluetooth transmitter which worked but bugged out after awhile and did not have any prompts or volume control through the HD hand controls. Tieing into the headset audio allows the prompts and volume control to work seamlessly through the headphones.

Can you send me the link of 3.5mm audio jack that you bought, I am going to get one and get my bike setup this weekend.....thanks!
