Bike sat outside work all night in zero degree weather. (yeah I know...not a wise choice to ride to work in such weather). Started bike at midnight. Took a bit but it started. Came out at 6am,crank,crank,crank....Let it sit. Tried again. Nothing. Let it sit again...crank slowly fizzled to nothing.
Whats the best way to jump my Sg?
Donor car off...that i know. Can I use charger pigtail?
direct to battery?
Need some help getting my bike home guys :)

I've jumped mine and my buddy's SG with my Jeep (engine on) and holdong the cables directly on the bikes battery terminals. Both bikes fired right up with no problem.

I can connect jumper leads directly to battery on bike?
I was under impression negative should be ground to unpainted
Part of bike. Frame. Foot peg. Etc.
If I put leads right on battery would I risk damaging computer brain box?

Good Morning,
I know it's a little late, but I got one of these for Christmas. Fits in your pocket. Great investment for situations like this. Started my friends '15 Jeep GC yesterday morning.
Todays modern vehicles (even our bikes) have so many tech gadgets that use up batt power while just sitting.

I have jumped a 14SGS directly to battery... no ill affects. CAR ON.... Hard to get to the terminals.. BE CARFUL. I used two LONG screwdrivers as extension leads to hit the terminals. Not the safest, but it worked... second set of hands is nice for this method.

Yeah, thats what I was wondering. Hard to get to terminals. Thanks for the long screwdriver tip.
I think I'm gonna go back to work this afternoon and give it a try. Temps supposed to be in the high 20's by this afernoon. I'll have my girlfriend with me as my 2nd set of hands to help out.
I think for the sake of "bad luck,no luck, some luck", If I have to jump it,I'm gonna do it with donor vehicle not running. I friend an old Ironhead bike wiring with my truck engine running. Dont need the expense of frying my SG wiring.
Thanks all for the input!

My wife got me the MICROSTART XP-5 from JPCycles ($149.00). It's an amazing gadget. Read the reviews on JPCycles site. Wouldn't go on an extended road trip (or any distance ride) without it, now. Will stay in my s bag when I'm riding. Charges via 12V socket or a common 110 outlet.

I was told by the dealer not to push start, but there is an easier way to battery jump. Instead of removing the seat and going to the battery, just pull the rubber insulator off the battery terminal on the starter. Connect + there and - to a good frame ground. The dealer showed me this, and I've done it a couple times. No problems at all.

Being a little bit of a shopper.... Amazon has the XP-5 for $89!!! THANK YOU!!! First time I'm hearing about it!

They also sell an adapter for our bikes to replace the factory tender harness so you can replace it and JUMP THRU THIS ONE without removing anything from the scoot! $30!

Some reviews question the quality of the product, how its made. Any bad reviews here ?

I've been looking... all good reviews that I see... nothing bad said that I could find yet....

BE WARE!!! There are 'knock-offs' that I have found for $49... ( just like anything else on the market ) make sure it's NAME BRAND

Looking further, more good reviews than bad. Picked up on Amazon for $88.95.
Figured one time use would pay for itself.
Thanks Spazz !

Any reason to replace the pigtail on the bike??? I was wondering if you could just jump the bike by running a lead between the pig tail harness, providing both bikes have one. I always carry a small set of cable clamps/wire lead that plug into the pigtail on the bike- they came with the Black & Decker trickle charger I paid $19/Amazon 2 years ago.

If it doesn't have a hydraulic clutch or other mods to the clutch put it in second or third gear and push start it

NO!!! You will FRY that factory pigtail for sure... heard about it, never seen it. There is a reason that normal jumper cables are so big... carry the amp load. The factory tender harness cannot withstand an amp load associated with starting.

Good info to know. Glad I carry the cables. The wires are labeled to carry 4x the anticipated amp load jumping a bike from a car!
