Hi guys, I am from NE PA and am moving to Michigan for work in the next couple weeks. I work for the Federal bureau of Prisons. I have a 14 Street glide FLHX Black denim with the stage 1 air kit, vance and hines Slip ons and the ECM download. Quick question for you all. Where is the best place to tie down the rear of the FLHX. I have the tie down brackets for the front on order. How far should I compress the forks also. Have shock straps with the Poly stretch bushing. Thanks!!

Welcome to the fun harleydvsn. Do you have a luggage rack for your bike or saddlebag guards?? If so you can use those keeping the straps away from your bags and paint. Just depends where your trailer or what ever your hauling with tie locations are. I use a tire lock or chock and it has a strap over the tire but I also strap at the front axle and not compress the forks.

I have seen pics of guys putting the strap around where the fork and fender meet. Is this better? I don't have luggage rack or the saddle bag guards unfortunately. Im guessing try the swing arm?

The higher the better. Also put the bike in neutral. When in gear and with the bike rocking ever so slightly it could be hard on the tranny during a long trip

Dont forget to disable the alarm while transporting a bike...

You may have a dead battery upon arrival...

+1 on disabling the alarm. Instructions to do it are in your owners manual.

Personally, I don't "tie down the rear". I loop a ratchet strap around the rear wheel from both sides and strap to each side. This keeps the rear from "walking" around the trailer.
For the front, using the tie down brackets works well. Do not compress the front too far at all. Just enough to keep the bike upright and in place. You can easily blow out the front seal.
Dirt bikes- compress
Touring bikes- do not compress

thanks a lot! Where is the best place to secure the rear?

You could do as SGS Mark suggested and wrap the tire or if you can grab a piece of the frame away from chrome and your tins. Possibly lift the seat and grab a frame rail above the side cover, or I have seen the passenger pegs used also.

Thanks a lot! I was thinking about doing that. Just wrap the tie downs around the wheel and hold if from walking. I haven't trailered the street glide yet and im used to dirt bikes which we cinch down. I have those shock straps. They are supposed to be awesome and not have to really compress the suspension. I'll use those on the tie down brackets and secure the rear like you suggested. Thanks!

Having wondered this myself, I think tie down the rear wheel is best. I still have questions about front. I've seen tie down accessory that mounts to the front fork. Looks pretty good, but I'm still uncertain.

The shock straps are supposed to help with slack in the strap when you hit bumps. Aug 6th is my move so I'll let you guys know.

Hey guys. I put the fl xied on my bike. I accidentally hooked the damn ground up to my positive. I don't think it did anything. Fixed it and it runs great. Should I be worried?
