hide your antenna

Well . . . that's a new twist-I wonder if the antenna touching metal will cause static or popping? As for me I had the fairing antenna installed when I bought the bike. I think J&M Audio sells a less expensive one.

hide your antenna

Now that could work. But I never listen to the radio at all. I think I would like to get rid of it all together.

I bought the J&M hidden antenna and it was a quick, easy install inside the fairing. I put a vacuum cap over the antenna base threads to keep the road grime off.

I would try this instead of removing it entirely instead. Worth a shot

If you are worried about the antenna shorting out against the frame, put a piece of vacuum tubing over the antenna before hiding it.

Thanks dwshort
I found that video a couple of weeks ago and hid my antenna along the frame. I just noticed the radio popping when I put a taller winshield on. I will get some vacum tubing and let you know what happens.

Personally I don't understand why someone would spend $25 - $30K on a motorcycle and then try to save $20+ on cheap mods. Just me I guess.

I did this when I first got my bike..works fine. I didn't hear anything good about the hidden fairing antenna and changing to a short antenna still leaves the antenna sticking out to run into. In my opinion, the cheap mods are the best mods because I did spend so much on the bike.

Well, I spent all my money getting the bike in the first place........

Not all of us around here make enough to support our bike habit on a regular basis.

Back on topic: I'm not really a fan of the huge rear antenna on mine either, but if I were to change mine, I'd probably just stick a shorty on it and call it done. But at least I know that there's options!

I had a hidden antenna on one of my other bikes a few years ago, never liked it.

What little time I listen to music is NOT from the radio. I have the hidden Fairing antenna but have not notice weak signals. Since I don't like commercials I lean towards my Playlists.

I have the hinden antenna in the fairing. I'm fixing to put in a amp & saddlebag speakers. Does the amp interfere with this kind of antenna? Don't really like the long antenna that came with the bike. Nothing else my have to go with a short one.

I have the short antenna on mine. Works great I have never had a problem with reception. Looking at the video I wonder how the vibration would be against the frame, or bottom of tank. Good luck either way.

Just performed this re-routing of the stock antenna under the seat. It's an improvement over the stock one that I had to cut (about 7") to fit under my detachable Tour-Pak .

My '09 SG had a hidden antenna under the fairing, but it didn't work very well for those stations 20-30 miles away from home (all of them). I'm in a fairly rural and very HILLY/MOUNTAINOUS area. You flat-landers have all the luck in radio reception.

Not wanting to invest in another failed hidden antenna trial, I opted for this relocation under the seat. It isn't quite as good as the stock upright position, but much better than my previous attempts (cut stocker and under fairing hidden). I call it a win.

I didn't have much slack in the antenna cable, so I had to remove the cable from the hole in the bracket and I also had to bend the tab that holds the bracket in the correct upright position inorder to rotate the bracket to allow the antenna base/screw align towards the front of the bike so the antenna could point forward to go under the seat.

I have done this in Australia after installing a tour pack and the fm reception has been as good as ever.
