Just wondering about local HOG chapters. How many of you are active members? And how active are you if you are? Does it look bad if you can't participate in every event they hold and issues like that. Being active military and the possibility I might be re assigned to a "remote" location very soon, I want to get involved in some riding clubs. Here at the base I am assigned to now have a Green Knights MC, but they are messing with the local 1% clubs to get a cut for their vests. The President to me is an absolute idiot and I have made it know how I feel about where he is trying to take that club. So I am not welcomed anymore. That's fine.

So since I bought the SG, I got the one year national membership to HOG. Is this something I should pursue? I enjoy poker runs, and charity events. I attend as many events I can in the Northern California area. So I was wondering all of the opinions of the members of this forum.

Thanks,

Perry

I wonder the same. Have heard local chapters are all clicky and stuff. Not welcoming to new folks. Kind of sux as I'd like to meet new folks with similar interests and discover those untapped roads!

The Harley Owners Group has over one million members and over 1400 local chapters. I'm sure there is a lot of variety.
The club at my dealership is great: Wild Prairie HOG

Word to the wise, I was a member of a three patch club, in a former life, and it was nothing but problems. Too much attention, sometimes good but most times bad. Too much drama and BS. My opinion, just ride. Ride with your friends and enjoy it. Ride by yourself and enjoy it. Patches don't make you tough, it's what's inside you that does. Unfortunately, no matter what patch you wear (1% or HOG) people still look at you like a criminal because of main stream media. Just my 2 cents...

H.O.G.® is about getting together to ride and have fun, share ideas and support the sponsoring dealer. Local chapters don't require you to attend meetings but its nice to get to know the others you'll be riding with. I enjoy my chapter and feel no pressure to attend meetings or to go on rides. Our policy is "if you wanna ride just be there on time."

I agree with ariley29,
I live in a small town & it's nice to meet some new people to ride with, also see some old friends that I use to ride with. It's just like any other clubs that I have belonged to there are all kinds of people out there. I've been a life HOG member since 1988, but only joined the local chapter last year after I retired and got my new bike.
Besides they give you 10% off of parts & 15% off of clothing at HOG meeting.

Perry,
Well here in our area there are many local HOG groups. They do seem to be very active within themselves. I am a patch holder in a 3PP club and don't seem to see them at many outside things. But I do see them leaving the HD dealerships with good size groups going for nice rides. If you are gonna be around April 13 and wanna ride up to Sac we are havering a bike blessing shoot me a pm if you are interested.

I'm a HOG member and in my dealers HOG club. They are a good group and try to have many different types of events, rides, meals and charity/fund raising events. I only attend about 1/3 of the meetings and feel no pressure. Having your HOG membership (USXXXXXXX) affords you lots of benefits such as discounts, towing, etc. All in all, I'm pretty happy with the organization.

I have been a member of H.O.G. for 10 years and I have enjoyed it. Our club has about 100 members but there are only about 60 that I have ever ridden with. Lot of them don't ride much or ride solo when they do. There are some cliques but I think I like that. The group I ride with likes to ride long day rides and some overnight ones too without any shopping involved! Others, with wives riding like to go on easy rides where they stop and shop some. Nothing wrong with that at all just not for me. We have our poker runs, charity rides, etc., and do things as a club that is fun too like cook-outs. Never ever have a problem finding someone to ride with me no matter where I want to go. All are good people, even though some are liberals! LOL! Had to throw that in there.
