Decided to try a GPS. Chose the Garmin. Bought a mount from Iron Aces. Fast service and a great follow up. Thanks, Lindsey!!
Install went well and used the accessory wires by the headlight harness for my supply. Had to remove the center windshield pouch for the needed room. No biggie, the Velcro sucked anyway. A nice clean install as far as I'm concerned. The Garmin manual, if you can call it that, is very anorexic at best. Good thing I know guys that have been there and can help me.
Headed to the Dragon and surrounding area in a few days so we will get to try it out.

Buckshot, how did the iron aces mount hold up? During install did you bolt it on or use the double sided tape to attach it to the bike?

Thanks

Even with the built-in Nav on my 14, a buddy is having to prior the old Garmin 660 out of my hands.
You won't regret it..

You mean that built-in POS system......just did a 2500 mile trip and used the Garmin app on my iPhone 6..........interestingly enough I had an issue one day with the mount and had to use the POS in the bike..........more than anything else this taught me that I have it appropriately named :D

The new unit looks right at home in that mount!!!

First leave for the Dragon this Tuesday. My plan is to run the Devils Triangle and the Dragon on Thursday then stop by Clingman's Dome on the way to Gatlinburg. Then Friday head to Little Switzerland and run the Diamondback. Saturday we should run over to Maggie Valley or down to Bridal Veil Falls on the Moonshine 28 run and then into Georgia and hit Warwoman road and back to Gatlinburg via the Dragon again. Sunday and Monday are open, maybe hit Maggie Valley if we don't earlier and we head for home early on Tuesday the 15th.
Been just riding around here, but, this should be plenty of road time to check it out.
The GPS itself is a pain to program routes. Not a huge fan so far.
Now for the mount. I used both the tape and bolts. The template that came with the unit for drilling the holes was off. It could have been a good 3/32" longer. It ended up locating the mount on the radius of the inner fairing shelf. So I had to file the holes some to bring it down so the mount would sit more on the flat between the gauges. Still wasn't down far enough to sit totally flat so I added the tape. Shouldn't go anywhere.
The mount is a very nice unit. Well made. Just do some test fitting and a little measuring to ensure it gets drilled where it should. Iron Aces service was perfect and Lindsey should give seminars on how to treat customers. I would buy this mount again.

Did it come with rout planning software or are you using HD ride planner?

It has a trip planner on it, but, to me it is so vague and unless you have coordinates or an address it is a pia. Still figuring things out. The Garmin websites don't seem to be much help. Being computer ignorant doesn't help.

I used the ride planner and downloaded the gpx file to the previous Garmin. World pretty well

I can't seem to get gpx files to save on my computer. Can't figure it out. Windows based, but can't find a location that it likes.

From ride planner? Save your route, then click GPS SYNC. click manual mode, save as gpx file. It should save to your Download dir

The ride planner can be kinda clumsy to use when you first start figuring it out.
