Just wondering if anyone with an aftermarket amp that requires a flash has done the latest flash that came out a few weeks ago for the new 6.5 inch boom setup? It offers some good "fixes" although, I'm not expecting them to actually work with all the other failed updates. Just don't wanna screw up anything and have to find another flash that is suitable for the setup.

speed4tu- I skipped the latest firmware update since I did get the radio flashed for my J&M setup . . . . just in case it screws it up.

To be on the safe side... DON'T DO IT.

There have been many folks that have had their custom flash corrupted or lost for some unknown reason during an update.... Some ... not all. I don't want to chance it at all

Good to know. I'll wait it out for a bit then. Thanks for the info

Mojo,

I have the same amp setup that you have and I had the latest J&M recommended Harley Flash performed on my bike. I have to be honest though, I didn't notice any difference in sound quality on my bike. However, there were some added benefits to getting the flash, such as enabling the other features like; CB, Bluetooth, Intercom and turning on the rear speakers which activates the fader in case you ever add rear speakers. I have yet to purchase the J&M dongle, so that I can try different software downloads which I believe is recommended to achieve the best possible sound.

NGOT8R- My J&M system sounded great from the get-go. I was just confused thinking there was an new - improved setup for mine. I have no complaints with my sound system But I'm with Spazz on NOT doing HD Boombox firmware updates. John and J&M have been terrific to work with and I'm glad they are a sponsor here as well!

John,

The HD tech had me come back to the service area and tell him what boxes to check as I read them from the latest instruction list that you had created. Don't get me wrong, my stereo sounds great, but I'm looking squeeze just a little bit more out of it.

NGOT8R ,,,,,,,

do you remember specifically under the speakers tab if you choose 0 amps ?,,,, and then 4 speakers, upper fairing & rear pods ? ,,,,,

then under the options tab, it is very important to click boxes amp 1 installed ? YES, amp 2 installed ? YES ,,,,,,,,,

Yes, however; when I first got to the dealership I explained to the service advisor what needed to be done and let him read the procedure that you recommended before he took my bike back to have it flashed. Shortly thereafter the SA told me the flash was complete, but when I tested it out I noticed no change in sound quality. There was also no fader capability which was another sign that something hadn't been done right. I explained to the SA that I didn't think the flash had been performed properly, so he took the bike back to the service bay again and paired me up with the tech. The tech then hooked up his equipment and asked me to tell him what boxes to check and that's what I did.

I remember reading somewhere on here that there was a way to check and confirm what radio flash had been done on any given bike, but can't remember what thread it was under or what information should pop up on my radio to tell me that. I also think that particular thread indicated that some people with the same exact flashes had different information popping up on their radio which was a bit confusing to me.

Thanks wildchild, that's exactly what I was looking for. I will will check the bin file, reset my defaults and post my findings shortly.

Wildchild, I followed your recommendation to reset the defaults and the results were very dramatic! Thank you very much for the helpful advice. My bin file is as follows: 00_OFF.bin

Glad it worked! Did you check the bin before and after? if so did it change?

BTW its the one highlighted in orange as you scroll down...

Unfortunately I didn't check the bin beforehand, but my stereo sounds real angry now. Lol
