First Day on this site- glad I found it. Just purchased a 2015 FLHXS on December 20. Traded in a 2002 Lowrider. What a difference $20k makes! Loving it so far, can't wait for warm riding whether and touring with my HOG family. This machine was a huge goal of mine and I told myself I would have it before going to Sturgis 2015- AND IT IS DONE! Picked up the bike at Oakland, CA HD- they were awesome, and I saved a couple of thousand $$$. We got a deal because me and three others discussed with them a deal to purchase 4 new bikes at the same time. My other buddies purchased three 2015 Road Glides. This is the bike of my dreams. I only have 250 miles on it, and haven't been on any tours yet, but I am putting around learning the bike's operations, temperament, etc.. Some things I have noticed thus far: new bikes smell funny (burning), when they are breaking in, the bike is sometimes difficult to get into neutral, the tranny has a serious 'clunk' going into first gear. I had used Lucas Oil in my Lowrider tranny change-out, and was really pleased with it- much smoother gear changes, so I think I will go with that after HD does the 1,000 mile service- I'm understanding that may be $300, but I want to ensure the warranty remains intact.
Below are some 'trinkets' I added to the bike before I took delivery:
• HD 4 Point docking
• HD Windsplitter windshield
• HD Black heat shields
• Rinehart 4” Touring Slip-ons, black- nice throaty rumble, but really loved the masterful sound my Lowrider made with the
SE II slash- cuts.
• HD Tank Bra
• HD Saddlebag Covers
• HD Mid-Frame Air Deflectors
• HD Crash Bar Footpegs
• HD Security System Audible Alarm
• HD Hidden antenna- that’s right, no whip antenna out back
• HD Turn Signals Lens kit, Smoked, NOTE: HD PN 69304-02 comes with 2 sets of amber bulbs. Red bulbs are required for
the rear, and they ARE NOT easy to find. I picked up 4 of them on ebay for $16. Hope they last.
• HD King Tour-Pak, Color Match: NOTE: just got word that the Tour-Pak is back-ordered to at least January 30- maybe
longer, then an order lead time of 30 days. We are talking ¼ year to get a major HD component- That’s absolutely
unacceptable!
• HD Detachable Two-Up Tour-Pak Mounting Rack
• HD Tour-Pak Locking Latch Kit, Keyed Alike
• HD Locking Latch, Detachable Docking: NOTE: these come in a pack of 2 ($60.29), but the mounting rack only requires 1,
as per the instructions. Perhaps HD should sell them as singles.
• HD King Tour-Pak Backrest Pad
• HD Install Kit, Rider Backrest
• HD Riders Backrest, Adjustable
• HD Screamin Eagle Insert, Air Cleaner
• Windshield Trim, black, ebay- look closely at where the windshield is installed with 3 screws- it’ wavy and not very good
fit/finish. HD didn’t offer an all black windshield trim piece, and I didn’t want a billet or chrome look up there.
Things I’m going to add in the near future- then I’m done! Yeah, right!
• Speaker/Amp upgrade- need louder, clearer tunes at 75-80 mph. I think I have decided on the Cycle Sounds package:
Series 6, 6.5” speakers, 300 watt amp, ‘Magic box’, and speaker grills. Package is going to run around $600- ouch! I will
install myself.
• FLHX Passenger Foot Boards- the Missus hasn’t wanted to ride with me, but love the look of these footboards. This is a
pricey package to set this up but have located some discounts. I bought some HD Streamline inserts (PN 50537-07), on
ebay for $16! Brand new, unopened, in the box. These retail for $89 + tax. I have priced the FLHX Passenger Footboard
Pans (PN 50500041), and the Passenger Footboard Support Kit (PN 50500042), at Newcastle.com for $135.99 and $83.96,
respectively. We’re talking over $300 for some footboards that will rarely, if ever used- OUCH! Again.
• Aluminator Billett Front Axle Nut Covers (PN 44114-07)- just for looks
• Maybe some heated hand grips- we’ll see.
• I might want to install SIRIUS Satellite module, but $400 plus monthly fee is pretty damn steep.
Things I totally dig about this bike:
• Denim Black color- I had made the deal on a Charcoal Pearl, which was my #2 pick because Oakland HD didn’t have any
Denim Black in stock, and while getting the paper work together, they approached me and said, ‘hey, we just took a
Denim Black off of the truck’. I was taken to the loading dock and when I was about 25- feet away, I said, ‘I want that
one’. Total bad ass look. We’ll see how the paint holds up.
• It’s newness- I am the proud owner/rider of one of the baddest-ass bikes on the road- a real head-turner!
• 103 HO Project Rushmore Motors- big difference from the Twin Cam 88 on my Lowrider (which I loved and thought it had
plenty of power), but this baby has some serious torque.
• Six speed transmission- This machine rolls at 80 mph @ 3,400 rpm- same as my Lowrider, can’t wait to be feet up on pegs
rolling at 80 mph on some long straightaways in 6th gear.
• The 6.5 BOOM system- love the simple things: clock, air temp and Oil pressure. I’m sure the GPS will come in handy in the
future.
• Proximity alarm and bike starting feature- Look Ma, no keys!
• Hands are protected from harsh winds by the fairing- MASSIVE DIFFERENCE! Hands have quite a level of protection from
the wind.
Things I would like to see in the future on the HD FLHX:
• A larger cell phone opening on the right side of the fairing- todays’ Smart phones barely fit in there, and it’s always nice to
be charging your phone when you’re riding.
• A matching opening on the left side of the fairing. Looks like the same as the right side, but doesn’t open. This should be a
little stash place. Maybe some company will create an aftermarket part where you can cut one in and install a cubby-
would be nice.
