Let me start off by saying thank you to this site moderator's for having such a site. Thank you to all current members for sharing your stories, tips, info and knowledge. I've done a lot of reading here and I am personally digging the knowledge and tips from fellow riders/builders.
I am a builder of custom bikes, but nothing newer than a '79 ironhead,so this glide is an entirely new animal for me.
I do have some questions that I'm not finding answers to here or in a search of the FAQ's.
I've read damn near every page of every topic within this forum and have been going over my owners manual, several times.
***Oil...the previous owner of my bike is a friend of mine that traded it in and I jumped on it. He had synthetic oil changed into engine at the 5,000 mile service. Bike had 6,200 on it when I got it last week. 6,500 on it today. I checked oil and it's about 1/2 qt low. I want to add oil,but dealership was closed today and I go back to work tomorrow. I stopped at local Autozone and picked up quart of Castrol Synthetic 20w50. Backside label says it's recommended by HD for their bikes.
Yes/no? I have not added any yet. After reading on here I have not read anyone mention Castrol.
I read a lot of Mobil 1 and Amsoil.
Would 1/2qt of the Castrol cause a problem? I am not familiar with Synthetic oils and I cant see paying the dealership prices for oil.
***Shifting "clunk". Now I am quite familiar with clunking shifting as my old Ironheads are notorious noisy transmissions, but wow...this glide really out clunks my Irons. I stopped at dealership and they said it's normal and will not damage anything. Once it's warm,it's not as bad,but even my buddy's are commenting that they can hear it over top of their bikes, while riding.
Rep at dealership said I can have trans oil changed to a newer style oil they use to quieten the shifting. (forgive me as I forgot what oil he had mentioned). My buddy had the oil in his trans changed in his '11 Glide and said it made huge difference in the clunking. Anyone else experience this or have problems with trans due to noisy shifting?
***Iphone holder. Is their any option other than the Iron Ace? Man that thing is high dollar. I found one on Ebay for $33 from a place in UK,but won't get it in time for my upcoming Delmarva Bike Week ride. For the price of the Iron Ace I'd sooner keep my iphone/gps in my pocket and get lost while enjoying the scenery.
***Is it necessary that I use the manual/factory recommended battery tender for the "special" HD battery? So far, I've been using a regular old battery tender, but I've only had the bike a week. I guess it isn't too bad,as the one manufacturer reco's is only $39.
***Manual says only use cigarette lighter to...light cigarettes. Not to use accessories in terminal.
Really? Say's accessory plugs could over heat and damage terminal. So...I have a mobile cell charger, that is able to plug into battery tender lead. This should be ok,right? No accessory terminal under seat.
***Wow on the price of a 2 or 4 rear seat rest and docking station! Just wow. luckily my buddy that had bike is selling me his 2 docking station rest for $140. Whew...
Thank you in advance for any and all input, knowledge and advice. I go back to working my night's swing shift tonight,so I'll check in on responses as soon as I'm able too.
Thank you all!

1. Personally... I try never mix oils... call it the OCD in me. There is nothing wrong with it as long as the specs are the same.

2.. Different oils tend to perform different... why? Not sure.. but they do. I run Syn3 in all 3 holes on my sled, but thinking of changing out next cycle to get the clunk a little calmed. The clunk is a well known topic... yes.. it's normal.

3.Check the amp draw on the charger ( should be on the label ) and the rated amperage of the outlet on the sled... if the charger is well under the rated plug, you should not have an issue. If it is close or over the rating of the plug, you could heat things... not saying you will... you could.

4.Can't help with the iPod holder.... I am an Android convert... Galaxy S4

5. I'll give the tender a stab.... I have noticed that some tenders are rated higher and lower than others... for this reason ( I believe ) HD recommends certain tenders for certain batteries to keep everything ' happy '. Nothing worse than blowing up a battery. Check the draw of the tender against the charger plug... if they are within specs of each other... try it....

I wouldn't mix oils either. I'm sure the castrol is fine, haven't heard of anyone running with it. Me personally I use Amsoil in a three holes, been running there oils for several years in several bikes and never had an issue. I can't help you either on the phone holder, but I would talk to Iron Aces, I believe they give us forum members discounts, remember you get what you pay for. I hear you on the sissy bar, just bought mine, good thing I have a good rewards program at my dealership.

I agree. Don't mix oils. I changed mine to HD Syn 3 in all 3 holes and I barely notice the clunking.

Hello

Never mix oils unless it's an emergency to get home with. As we have all found out nothing is cheap for these bikes and I don't see it changing anytime soon. It's possible they left the oil a little low so it wouldn't leak out of the breather depending on what stage (Stage 1, 2, 3)upgrade you have for performance. Ask your buddy that had the bike before to make sure he should be able to answer most of your questions.
