New amp

Mojo and Spazz,

I just orderd the JM 2 speaker 250W with 6.5 speakers for my '15 SGS. I haven't taken possession of the bike yet, but I expect to have it delivered to me sometime this week. Having said that, I wanted to ask if you guys have any special tips as far as the install is concerned? The instructions seem self explanatory; however, it never hurts to ask someone whose been there and done that already. Lastly, how do you guys rate the sound quality of your stock radios on a scale of 1-10 before installing the JM amp and speakers and now; with your JM amp and speakers setups?

Thanks

NGOT8R- I'm just now installing mine (Exact set as you). I didn't have a chance to complete it today but If you check out Spazz's video on removing hidden screws & Speaker housings, its pretty self explanatory.

First I'd recommend starting with a near empty gas tank (do you know how much 6 gallons weighs?) so you can remove the tank easier.Take your time and as you read and execute the instructions go over everything twice before your do the task. Make sure you have a good flashlight, complete set of Torx bits and patience. I got an email from John at J&M just today (Yes he helps on Sundays too!). regarding the Harley remap for your radio firmware. If you're just adding the fairing speakers like me, you want to use the Harley radio flash 4-speakers, amps 1&2 OFF", enable fader for the deluxe (6.5) radio. Good Luck!

NGOT8R,

I wasn't impressed with the system as a whole.... you can't judge a head unit by the components connected to it, but people seem to all the time.

That being said.. I truly enjoy what I have now in the audio world... a MILLION times better than stock...a good, high quality amp and speakers will make just about ANYTHING sound premium.... lol!

OK... Mojo suggested you watch my YouTube video.... do it... it will save you a lot of time...

I still have a video to edit for the wiring.. but that not that hard at all..... oh... and the lids..

I will get them done soon....

MOJO,,,,

Why aren't you done yet? It's only a 2 channel!!!! LOL!!!!

Thanks for the heads-up Mojo and Spazz. I will take a look at the video.

Mojo,

I received an email from John at JM which said that there was no need for me to reflash the stock 6.5 radio, as it comes from the factory with the correct flash to support the JM 2 channel amp and 2 ohm speakers. Is this the same flash that you're referring to, or is John now saying that a different flash is necessary for the SGS with the 2 speaker setup?

I am about to order an amp and replacement fairing speakers...what's the concensus ....order the whole kit from John, or is there a better option/brand/etc?

let me say I can hear my stock radio 4.3 well over 80mph....I am looking for stronger lows, more clarity in highs and just over all better sound....hopefully better than boom stage 2

You have a couple of options here talk with John at J&M and you may want to check in with Peter Jensen at Soundz Customz. After Spazz did the research we went with the Soundz system. Depends on what you want and are looking for but talk to both and make your choice. You must have young ears because I had a really hard time hearing mine over 75. Of course I do have hearing aids "LOL" for the important stuff I really have to hear.

Good luck and keep us posted

Depends on how deep your pockets are as well....

Gonna be hard pressed to get good bass with a 6.5 or 5x7.... which I have both and I got a great improvement.... but don't expect 40-50 hz to sound 'great'.

There are systems to choose from... SoundzCustomz is what I run and TomA and we are both VERY pleased. Look at my video and see what you think.. my other thread. It is plug and play complete with all wiring. Of course... there is J&M... and Chris Howe on FB has great system as well with Diamond amps and either Focal or Hertz speakers.

So you have choices... do your research. I'm not gonna choose for you... but as most here know... I was dead set on one system ..... I did more research and talked to people... joined a few groups on FB (harley davidson bagger stereo) and learned a TON more and changed my mind altogether....

Thanks for the reply! I don't really care how much it costs, but I want it to be right, and as plug and play as possible

Hey spazz how waterproof are those focal speakers?

Not very.... that's why I left the factory covers on the fairing for now... I have plans though.

They will take a little water... but not from a water hose.
