I am currently in Afghanistan. I return in 5 days. I worked through the local dealer and purchased a 2014 Vivid Black FLHXS and pick it up the day I arrive back. I added Rinehart 4" slip-ons, V&H FP3 tuner, backrest for the fiancée, rear floorboards, aftermarket air cleaner, and some other cosmetic stuff. All will be installed before I even pick it up. What else would anyone suggest needs to be purchased with the bike?

Also, I am moving up from sport bikes (used to race and have 3 still) and I also have a 2012 VRod Muscle. I rode it to Myrtle Beach last year for Bike Week. It's 4 hours one way. I almost died. My fiancée thinks it's not too comfy either. So, in the end, new to a touring bike period..... New SGS awaits. What am I in for? LoL

I cannot begin to tell you which ones. I am in the middle of my shopping list right now for my audio. Everyone says JM is outstanding. I am leaning towards the upgraded HD speakers and adding the saddlebags speakers. The only reason is cost. To replace the rear fender, saddlebags, lids, and upgrade audio my parts list comes out to $4000.00

No matter what enjoy it when you get home.

I agree replace the speakers and add an amp. I installed a Rockford amp along with Polk speakers. Sounds so much better. There is better speakers and amps on the market all depends on your budget. Hertz, Focal are good speakers for amps Arc audio and JL audio is good also. Hurry up and come home safe and enjoy your new ride, you'll love it.

Since I'm not a "radio guy" while riding I would suggest a better windshield to cut down on buffeting which Street Glides are known for. Klockwerks, Clearview and others with recurve at the edge are very effective. A lot of us on this forum are Vets so thanks for your service and enjoy the bike-you picked a good one ! ! ! !

Welcome and I would look at a new seat if your going to ride 2 up a lot. The windshield is a must depending on your height. If your short the stock could be ok if your tall then you will need taller windshield.

Thanks for you service and keep your head down until you land back here.

Thanks Tom. I am 6 ft. I would like to order a windshield as I have heard I will need it from others also. I want a taller one but something similar to stock. What is a recommended height? 8"?

Welcome from Summerfield, NC and BIG THANK YOU for your service.

You will like the SGS a lot, I purchased the the same color in February. You won't need them now, but I added the Streamliner heated grips. Very good upgrade if you ride a lot. I removed the CAT from header pipe which removed unwanted heat.

PM me at some point, I'm just north of Greensboro. Enjoy your new ride!

7" is good for me but I'm 5' 7" so I would say an 8" or 10"

I'm 6-1 and have a longer body so I will be getting a taller windshield soon. Have the 10 inch wind splitter from Harley right now and it works but my whole head sticks above the shield. They tell me you should have 2 inches of clearance above the windshield so have someone hold a yard stick or straight edge for you to see where your at to help figure what height you need. Another thing you can do is a lot dealers will let you test ride the windshields before you buy one.

Good luck in your search and if the first one doesn't work try another because that's the fun thing about upgrades they never stop lol
