Just bought a 2017 SG special, Also have a Yamaha 950 v star tourer looking to sell. Love the new Milwaukee eight, but still struggling with seat height ( I am short at 5"6") and weight of bike when backing up or slow speed u turns since I am not flat footed, I purchased the Solo reach seat but still Need to be lower, going to check out mean cycles for a seat mod, appreciate any advice on getting the bike lower, I do not want to modify the suspension if I can help it. Also if you have suggestions on boots that will help.

Boy, I think you bought the wrong sized bike. Your first mod should probably be some saddlebag guards in case you drop the bike.. Which is possible even for guys the bike fits. A thin low reach seat should help. With boots, you probably need not only a hefty heel, but also a thick sole in the front.

Get a pair of boots with a thick heel, and keep practicing. I'm only 5'3.5" and I'm riding a 2017 SGS. I had a 2014 Road King that I was very comfortable on once I lowered it 2". Confidence is key.

Mean City Cycles will get you fixed up with their Super Narrow Mod. I had it done to my stock seat and my Sundowner seat and I'm 5'7"" tall.

I am 5'5 I had the same problem until I put on a air ride and a Danny Gray speed cradle seat. now when I get ready to back up I drop her down . now when I stand up I can clear the seat.

Leo, a backrest will make a big difference on your ability to walk it back. You'll get this new bike worked out with a little time. Enjoy it and practice low speed turns in an empty parking lot when time permits.

Thanks everyone, got some "tall men" boots and made a big difference, have around 300 miles now and much more confident! My Yamaha feels like a mini bike compared to the SGS and I have no desire to ride it anymore! I also recently notice higher vibration level when downshifting or coasting in gear, going to take it in.
