No I am not asking oil opinions here, lol. I am just stating my experience.

I have a 2014 SGS that I bought last August. I got a great deal with 15's just coming out. I had my 1000k mile service done within a week and then the 5k mile done just before putting her away. Damn Ohio Weather.

All the while I had stuck with conventional oil and all was quiet and good in my world. I decided in my not so infinite wisdom on the 10k mile service right to change and go to Syn 3 in all three holes. Dealer offers 10k service with Syn 3 for 280 with tax. Good deal and some other guys had changed over to it, so why not?

Well I just had 15k mile service done. I requested them to do the Syn 3 in motor, but in the primary and transmission go back to the Harley Formula +. They did and I am so thankful. The noise is gone and shifts sooooo much better like when I first got her.

So if you are hearing some noises after going to Syn 3.... run go back to the Formula + or to some other oil in those two areas. You won't regret it!!

That's interesting after my first oil change on my 14 SG I switched from regular to synthetic and as of 6,400 miles I haven't had an issue.

Although I like and use a full synthetic in the motor, I'm not a fan of Syn3 at all.

Lol I have ditched Syn altogether now run Dynacycle in all 3 holes.

I didn't think I would, but there are 3 of us who have 2014 / 2015 rides with the same loud noise due the change to Syn 3 ...Ok 2 of us since I went back to Formula +. Some other guys I know that use other synthetic fluids in the primary and transmission are all good. My belief is that based on what I hear, the Syn 3 is not as a good of a fit as they would like you to think.

My service tech. talked me out of Syn 3. Said he did not care for it in these bikes.

Just did my 1k on 15' SGS went all syn. The trans makes more noise than my bones in the morning. I will be going back to reg soon. The dealer said they would work with me. I can feel the pain coming.

It is only @ 1 quart of oil per hole and easy to do it yourself so pretty cheap.

I just had the fluids changed today and I went with conventional in the tranny and primary.....damn what a difference I could feel (hear) once the bike was warmed up....great suggestion thanks!!

I just did Amsoil 20w/50 in all 3 holes as a test as well. Only have an hour on her, but I think I'm going back to a heavier weight gear oil 75w/90 at least as well. I'll keep the Amsoil in the engine as I have since 2002. Too chattery and neutral isn't any easier :(

As an Amsoil user I don't use it in the chaincase but use the Bel Ry chaincase fluid instead.

Good to hear. I'm getting tired of hearing the noise. Next oil change I will be making a change. I've used belray and Amsoil for my dirt bikes. Maybe it time to try it.

I have been using Amsoil 20-50 in all three. I will try the new stuff in the tranny and primary at 10K this fall.

The reason people notice Synthetic oil is a bit noisier is because it is lower in viscosity at lower temperatures, like when you start up your bike. Where you really need synthetic oil is at high temperatures (I assume not many are starting their bikes at -20F where Synthetic oil would be great too). If your oil tank gauge is reading 250F the oil in the engine in between critical hot parts like pushrod ends against rockers or pistons against cylinder walls is much hotter - well over 300F. In these critical areas Synthetic oil will get the job done by maintaining a thicker viscosity and not forming varnish.

If you want a little thicker (quieter) oil here's one: Klotz Harley 25W-60

I tried the Syn3 in my primary and after about 800 miles I couldn't take the clunking noise coming from the primary. Went back to the conventional oil and the noise went away. I am running Redline with shockproof in the trans and have no complaints.

On every Harley I have had I used conventional motor oil in the primary chain case. Happens that what I always had on hand was Havoline 10-40 or 10-30 so I used that. Never had any issues with wear, heat, or noise.
Mobil I 15-50 regular synthetic (not the V-Twin for $3 more a qt) in all my Harley engines and Mobil 1 75-90 EL gear lube in tranny. Never had any issues over the years.

On my latest oil change I decided to try Castrol 20W-50 Part Synthetic. I've not noticed any extra noise in the tranny and the shift seems to be fine except I can't get the bike in neutral, especially when it heats up. After about 5-7 tries, it might go in neutral. I'm going back to Mobil 1 75-90 in the tranny and Mobil 1 in the primary.
