Hi everyone I am going to go from my Dyna to a SG and am wondering if anyone has any input on the wind buffeting on the old fairing vs the new fairings with the vents. I am a shorter rider at 5'7" and am looking for any input on this matter. thanks.

Can't say to much on the older bikes, but I'm the same height as you and I have no issue with my '14.

Well at this point nothing is stock on my bike, lol. I did have the stock windshield, but I had the seat redone when I got my bike to lower me on the bike. I wanted my feet flat on the ground.

I cannot comment on the old vs new fairing . My 2014 SG is my first and only SG. I am 5'7" like you. I added a Danny Gray Speedcradle solo and a Klockwerks 5" Flare. Perfect combo for me. The stock seat was too high and the stock shield was too low for my liking. And that vent really does work.

greetslide808, thank you for taking the time to respond! this info is very helpful!! :)

I like the 14 and newer fairing but don't have a lot of time on an older model short test rides on friends and dealer bikes. I'm a little taller then you so I started out with the 10 inch wind splitter and have progressed to a clear view windshield with fork fangs or fork wind deflectors. I ride a lot of highway at 80+ mph and if I was on a slower 2 lane wasn't much of a problem but once I hit the highway felt like someone was sitting behind me slapping my head from side to side. I just tested a 8.5 klockwerks and it was almost as bad as the stock shield for me and they wouldn't let me try a taller one. Being 6-1 makes a little difference though. I wanted a shorter shield then the one I have now but I will try a few more brands and see if they are better.

I'm 6 foot freedom shield 7" is perfect for me with the stock seat. I have a used ultra seat that puts me up a bit higher. I use ClearView 10 inch with the ultra seat. No head buffeting with either configuration. Added fairing deflectors to really "seal out up draft wind. The vent works very well.

@TomA, Agghhhh sorry to hear that, i spent a ton of money on a memphis shades fairing for my dyna, bought fangs, deflectors and just about every windshield out there and still can use it b/c i literally cant see i am getting pushed around so much. Really want to by an SG but not worth it if i get buffeting. I live far from a dealer so i wont get alot of ride time to make a decision, hence the post.
Thanks for you input!! goodluck.

I'm 6' and on my '14, the vents do nothing. Can't tell a difference between open and closed. Adding a 10" Wind Splitter helped at lower speeds, but not above 50MPH. The only thing that helped were fork fangs. They eliminated buffeting at all speeds.

I got a 13 which is the older fairing without the mail slot. I dont experience that much buffering I guess. I'm 5'8"ish and have the stock seat and windshield. I think the stock seat is complete **** and uncomfortable. As for the stock short windshield, it's great for me but when I have my wife on the back she takes the brunt of the overwind from it.

Either way, I say go with a 14 or newer. The 14s have better features and options than a 13 or older. I've disliked my 13 SG since the day the 14s came out, LOL!!

I am glad I am not the only one that feels that way. I am 6'1" and cant tell any difference. I may put the windshield bags from my 13 on my 15.

I am also going to change the seat then the windshield so I am following closely. I do get the head buffering pretty good at higher speeds.

Thinking about my post last night I should say go for the 14 or newer bike and just get the fork fangs as they aren't that expensive but they really help. Then find the windshield that works for you. Biggest thing here is not everybody is the same so different shields work better for one and not the other.

Good luck on your choice
