Hello all,

My question is...If I were to upgrade the front fairing speakers & install an amp...Do I have to to have HD "re-flash" the factory stereo? Or do you re-flash only if adding rear speakers as well ?

Thanks for any info,
Chris

Hey Chris
You will have to have it reflashed. Only if you just add the amp. If you add more than 4 speakers you will have to add another amp to push the speakers.

Thanks for the response but I'm a little confused... so, your saying that I do have to have stereo re-flashed if I change front speakers & install a more powerful amp ?

Thanks,
Chris

You do need a reflash if you add an amp. I had mine done to show 8 speakers and no amp and it sounds amazing.

There are several flashes available for various setups... anytime you add an amp it needs a flash... or go with the magic box. If you add more speakers... a flash will be required to enable fade control via the head unit.

I added a J&M 250watt 2 channel amp and I didn't have to have Harley do anything.

J&M amps ( and a few others ) have built-in programming to combat (work around ) the DSP within the factory head units for optimum performance. Reverse-engineered, so to speak, to allow the use without the need for a flash... however... your amp is programmed from J&M for YOUR setup and future upgrades ( adding more speakers, etc... ) would require an updated program be uploaded into the amp via a proprietary USB cable to work with those add-ons.

I love the technology of J&M....no guesswork as you can download specific programs from their site when needed. I don't have their amp yet... but it's on the list of many upgrades.

That's good to know. Will be getting a amp this winter.
So you buy the J&M amp and it's plug & play and NO going to dealership?

I just order for my sled...

21/16 wheels. The rims are smoked Gray Pearl & Hubs. Chrome spokes & rotors.
Chrome forks legs. Should be in around 3 to 4 weeks.

Did you get the the stereo flashed without changing anything?

When you say changing anything are you referring to HD radio? I didn't change the radio, just added an amp and speakers.

I meant could I just take my stock stereo into a harley Dealer and let them reflash the system. In other words, could I trick the stereo into thinking it had 8 speakers to sound better.

You probably can not do that, but my interpretation of your experience said otherwise. I think I get it now.

When you reflash the radio it gives the output from the radio a flat eq curve and also turns on the rear output, so no it won't sound better.

That makes sense. I figured it was too good to be true anyway. I will just buy some more speakers!

Don't forget a good amp. Check out Soundz, Peter hooked me up with a great deal.

J&M also has some very good amplifier options for the 14 StreetGlide here http://www.jmcorp.com/ProductDetail.asp?ProductID=JMAA-1800HC14 and here http://www.jmcorp.com/ProductDetail.asp?ProductID=JAMP-250HC14P ,,,,,

when installing any non-Harley amp in your StreetGlide, you want to leave the Harley radio flash Stock, just like it came from the factory ,,,,, if it has already been flashed for the BOOM system, then you need to have your dealer flash it back as """ 4 or 8 speakers, all amps off, enable fader""" from the Harley screen selection menu,,,,,,,

Does J&M compensate for the radio being stock I take it?

David

that is correct ,,, all J&M amplifiers are pre-tuned at our factory for the Harley radio to be in the stock condition ,,,,,,,,

if it has been flashed for the Harley boom amps, then it should be flashed back to stock when adding any of the J&M amplifiers ,,,,,,,

send email direct to john@jmcorp.com for the StreetGlide Forums VIP discount promo code,,,,,,,,
