Radio cutting out

Went for about an hour ride to a bike part swap meet today. XM radio worked great as usual. On the way back it kept going out like hitting the mute button for a second or two.

It does it with XM radio, FM radio and playing something via Bluetooth from my iPhone.

Disconnected the battery, removed the 50 amp fuse. Took the fairing off and checked all of the head unit connections. Even took the XM radio out of the head unit and reinstalled it with the same results of the radio keeps cutting out for a sec or two.

Bought the bike new 2 months ago with 9 miles now I have about 1500 miles. Will be calling the dealer Monday and droping it off to see what they say. Sounds like the head unit is faulty.

Any suggestions as to what it might be? Anyone else had this problem?

Finally figured it out. When I rode to the meet I used the GPS but didn't shut it off. While riding back the GPS must of been communicating but I never heard anything just intermittent periods of the radio going out.

Went to go for a cooler evening ride and the GPS said recalculating very quietly. I shut the GPS off and all is well. Thankful I didn't need to make an unnecessary trip to the dealer. Hopefully this info will help others with the same issue.

Good to know and thanks for the quick update. I've never had that happen before but then again I've never taken a long enough trip to use the gps

also if your phone is bluetoothed any incoming messages and emails will cause a brief pause

I did the same thing, just knew I was the only dummy around. Had another issue with the radio too. Started hearing a fairly loud exhaust noise just after I left the HD dealership for a visit, I finally noticed it seemed to matched my RPM. Accidentally got it on an AM station when I got too busy on the highway. Kept looking around for the motorcycle that was about to pass me. Once I figured it out I had to look around to make sure some wasn't watching.

You can disable Nav prompts to prevent them from interrupting the audio from the radio or bluetooth. Select Home>Setup>Feedback Settings. Check or uncheck the ENABLE NAV PROMPTS.
