Any of you guys completed either the Saddlesore 1,000 miles in 24 hours or the Bun Burner 1,500 in less than 30 hours?

I am planning an out and back from the California Bay Area to Las Vegas, and wanted to see if any one has done either of these rides, and could offer some advice. I have a pretty good idea of what to expect, and planning the route with gas and food stops I have handled. I'm more interested in your story on how you accomplished this massive achievement. Do you do it in a straight shot? did you do an out and back (like I'm planning) or did you run a circular route? How long did it take you? what time of day did you leave? How many bikes/rider did you go with? Did you stop for sleep?

so really I just want to hear your story if you've done this.

I am planning my first attempt at this in May of this year, and I promise to come back and post my experiences with running it.

I have not "officially" done this but have done a few road trips with 1,000 miles sections in under 24hrs. The one I remember the most was just a buddy and I. We did a straight shot from somewhere to Kentucky for a get together. We started before it was light out to make sure we would end while it was light out. Reduces the chances of falling asleep at the end. We did not stop for sleep. Rather that stop for big meals. Have snacks available and just eat small at your gas stops. Big meals always make me sleepy afterward. And lots of water! Also chewing gum keeps the blood flowing to your head to keep you more alert. Good luck and be safe!

If you don't already have highway pegs, they would be a good idea. Don't forget sunscreen. Oh, and condoms ;)

Do it. I have been riding for 18 years and it is by far my most memorable ride. I did it with a good friend who rode like me (very important). If you know someone who doesn't like to go over the speed limit and doesn't like to pass cars, DON'T bring him with you. We did it on Goldwings with CB radios (nice to be able to chat). We did it in a straight line in Canada, Fredericton, New Brunswick to Windsor, Ontario. We left at 4am and arrived in Windsor 1700km at 10pm on July 2 (pick the longest daylight days of the year.

Thanks for all the replies. I am going with a buddy that has a similar riding style, fast. We both have Sena headsets, so we'll be able to talk most of the trip (battery life might not make it the whole time) And Highway pegs are on and ready to go. And we are headed to Death Valley, so finding warm weather shouldn't be to much of an issue. A LOT of Bugs are going to die on this trip (if you've ever ridden I-5 through Central Calif you know what i mean). I am planning on reducing or eliminating coffee and soda the week before the trip, So while we are out at about the 8 hour mark, I can drink a cup of coffee and really feel that energy boost to help me finish off the last 8 hours, and then an energy drink at roughly the 12 hour mark to get me the rest of the way through. Mostly consuming low-fat healthy foods before and during the ride, and snacking throughout the trip rather than a couple of large meals. We will stop for food breaks, but it will really be more of a stretch break rather than siting down to eat a large meal. This is going to be really fun, I am very excited for it, can't wait for May to get here.

I've also been seriously looking into doing a Saddlesore 1000. I've mapped out a few possible routes basically around New York State and spoken with a riding buddy who says he's up for it. Hopefully we can take a shot at it.

Tomorrow is the day. I have changed my route slightly as it's an added bonus and special patch if completed all within one state. I am super excited to spend a whole day riding. Now if this work day could hurry up and be over with.....I gots me some riding to do.

Thanks Firenailer. I am bringing two more guys with me to help pass the time, and we all have Sena Headsets, so we'll be able to BS the whole ride. Should be a lot of fun.

Did it last year on the way home from Sturgis. 1053 mikes in 17 hours.
Glad I did it.
Stay hydrated and get off and stretch. Keep your focus. You have a lot of time.

I did mine a couple years ago. I rode from Seal Beach to Eugene, Ore...only because I was meeting a nephew and friends in Coos Bay. I left early in the morning, about 1 am...because I didn't want to get to my destination at night, and very tired from riding. I had a backrest which helped tremendously, and foot pegs. I got to stop every couple hundred miles for gas, stretch my legs, grab a light snack and maybe a drink. I made it in just a little over 16 hours. It was fun and yes, I'd do it again.....

I made it. What a blast that was, we left at 4am, and got back home by 10:30 that night. I turned in all my forms and pis this morning. Will not be my last IBA ride, going to start planning out a BunBurner 1,500 in less than 36 hours. So much fun can't wait for the next one.

Glad to hear it was such fun. I'm hoping to get one under my belt this season. Did your Sena's last the entire trip or did you have to plug in on the way?

One of the guys didn't end up bringing his, So we didn't really use them much. I had mine on the whole day, made a few 10-20 minute phone calls while I was riding down the freeway, and my battery lasted the whole trip.
