SGS Stereo Issues When Bike Starts

New to this. Need advice. This is what happens: '15 SGS. Touch Screen System. No Upgrades.

When I turn the unit to "ignition and/or Accessory" the stereo turns on as normal and all functions work properly.

When I turn on the bike, the stereo turns off and will not work at all. No screen, no sound, nothing.

Once I turn the bike off and give it a few minutes, I will do it again. No radio after I run the bike on.

Thanks all.

I have that happen about every 3rd day, only on cold mornings. My commute is 30 minutes so it's charged plenty but those hard starts are too demanding. I'm thinking of putting a switch in line and turn in the stereo on with that after the bike starts up

Happens on mine every 2nd day, but only if it's a full moon. :) Seriously though, this does happen along with a laundry list of other things that happen randomly for no apparent reason. The dealer is clueless and you can't call anyone else further up the ladder. The problem that occurs the most is that the radio will start and play, but there is no volume control. There is volume, just no control. If I stop, shut the bike off and restart, it works fine.

Dealer says I'm not the only one with issues. I'm installing an RF system and will try flashing as RF recommends along with a software update, but if it continues this nonsense, it's history. There are MUCH better head units out there for A LOT less money.

I'm not sure if it has anything to do with your issue or not, but when I first took delivery, I started the habit of shutting my audio system completely off when I stop (even at short stops like fuel or just a short break). It was a tip I was given from service shop foreman at my dealer. He advised me that the Upgraded Multi Amp Audio system is a real drain on the battery, which is why the MoCo strongly suggests the HighOutput charging system for H-D's BOOM! II.

Before I shut my bike off, I ALWAYS turn volume all the way down to "mute" & then press & hold the power/mute button on the lower right of the unit and watch it count down the 2 or 3 seconds until it just shows the small bar & shield logo & time (indicating unit is off). Then, "after" I restart the bike, I turn the system back on by just tapping the power button once & then tap "ACCEPT" on the touch screen or press the "SELECT" button on right H/bar controls... (I hate fingerprints on my touch screen). ...then raise volume back up accordingly.

Try letting the system boot all the way and accept the warning message. Then start the bike.

I'm wondering if a higher capacity battery would eliminate this issue.

I will get a higher capacity battery as well and also start shutting the system down when turning off. Thanks all

I agree with the battery issue. I had never had it happen to me until last week or so. Let the bike run for awhile and rode a few miles to get gas. Shutdown while fueling and the radio came back up upon restart. Expecting it to happen again since we keep having these deep cold spells. The rental garage has no power and I have not gotten out there to pull the battery and bring it inside yet. :(

I have this issue all the time even with charged battery. HD is clearly avoiding the solvable problem. This deserves a recall.
