Hertz 165.1 running front channels and ddb3/st25 parallel on rear channels of 800.4. Alpine double din HU. When I push mute or bring the volume to zero there is a pop in the left front speaker - I do not hear it in any other speakers. Amp was grounded at the trees. Moved ground to distribution block and also direct to battery with the same results. Tried a 4v2 amp and still seem to have the pop but it's quieter. Thoughts/suggestions?

Have you tried swapping speakers from left to right and see if the sound travels with it?

Yes. Stays in left. I was initially grounded at the trees. I then tried to run a ground back to my distribution block and the pop remained. I then tried to run a ground back to the battery and the pop remained. So that's why I say I don't believe it's the ground. I tried different RCAs. I tried running from the rear out on the head unit - pop remains so I don't believe it's the HU. I also tried a 4v2 amp in place of the 800.4 - seeing as its a smaller amp, I did have to bring the sens up to about 1/2 but then also heard the pop with that amp. I'm at a loss....

Make sure your RCA plugs are NOT touching each other or any metal parts. I had a similar issue. I wrapped each RCA connection in 3 layers of electrical tape to insulate them... problem was solved.

It's worth a shot...I was surprised myself

Yea I tried that too - I've tried everything!! Only thing I haven't tried is an in line ground loop isolator which I'm going to try next. I have the pop when I hook up the amp in my bag too, which has completely separate wiring so aside from the isolator I have no idea what else to do!!

Where is your deck grounded? The amp is most likely amplifying this.... start at the radio and get a good ground there.

Check your wires from the amp to the speakers... make sure there are no compromised areas of insulation.... all wiring ... start with the left front...

Deck is an alpine double din plug n play from biketronics so it's grounded through the bikes wiring system. I hooked up a different amp to the wiring in my bags, so all different wiring (ground, power, speaker wiring, and rca all different), also using different speakers, and I still have the pop. I originally had the amp grounded at the trees, then tried at my distribution block and also direct to the battery and I still have the pop..I think it's a ground loop issue because the head unit and amp are grounded at different places, but I'm not sure how to fix that...

Try running a secondary ground from the radio back to the battery. The ground loop could be the issue

From the HU you mean? The issue I have with that is the Alpine from biketronics comes with a plastic sleeve over the metal housing so there is no access to the metal housing to ground it!! I'm fighting a losing battle here!!!!

Well that sucks... if you run the deck without the amp.. does it still pop? Worth a shot... could have an issue with the deck itself

Remember... the amp will amplify the issue if it's in the deck... so the pop will be much quieter when directly wired without the amp

Got it thanks bud!

Just FYI: was a ground loop issue - used ground loop isolators and the pop is gone
