Thinking of upgrading my speakers to the ones Harley has for $200.00, is it worth it? is there enough of a differance to make the change?
Thanks

Not unless you upgrade the amp with them. Speakers alone - not much of a difference. Plus, the speaker install is a royal PITA, but the amp is easy and you have the fairing off anyway.

And there are MUCH better options for speakers than the Harley ones. Do a little searching around, you'll find plenty of good info here on speakers and amps. It all depends on your budget.

But as I found out even if you have the money to spend a bit more you might just be wasting your money when you can get something that sounds better for less. For example, I got my Kappa speakers new for $87 to my door.

I went with cycles sounds amp and speaker combo and the magic box for the 14 and up bikes. it's not extremely expensive and sounds way better than the stock system.

Exactly why it pays to research and shop around. That's a heck of a deal.

The speakers you are referring to are stage I. They are 6.5" diameter with a separate mid-tweeter mounted on the side of the speaker frame. The stock speakers are about 5" with the tweeter mounted in the middle of the main cone.
I found a brand new pair of HD Stage I speakers on evil-bay FOR $100. They were brand new CVO take offs. After running these all summer with the stock amp I can honestly say that they are much better than the 5" speakers. They are louder and clearer. At 75 mph with ear plugs I can hear the radio fine with volume 1/2 to 3/4.
I am satisfied with the sound as is BUT I may keep my eyes open for a two channel 150 watt amp just to play with a bit.
Would I buy these again?......yes for $100 but I would not pay the new price of $200. I think that there are better deals price wise. Can't speak to comparing quality to aftermarket units.
I think it's important to recognize your goal. If you want about a 25% increase in volume and sound quality and do not plan to add a big amp go for the stage I speakers but shop around for a deal.
If you want to sound like a low rider on cruise night at the drive-in and have lots of cash to spend shop around for a high wattage system.

I am going to agree with Blues and Velopod's replies. I picked up a pair of gently used Stage 1 Boom Audio Speakers for $100.00 bucks on here from another member. When you changer out speakers, better make a day out of it. The white speaker boxes that the speakers sit in, totally a pin in the ass to get to the bolts that secure them toward the head light area of the bike. The also secure the speaker boxes underneath the fuel and volt meter gauge. With that being said if you have the proper tools not too much of a pain. Once I got my speakers hooked up and only using the stock amp I could tell a difference. However they have the potential to sound even better with an amp supplying more power to the front speakers. The stock OEM speakers themselves are a joke in comparison and pale to the Boom Stage 1's and other aftermarket audio equipment out there.

What is the part name? That link takes me to a set of wrenches- which probably wouldn't work very well for the speaker pods.

The link is supposed to be for wrenches...

What tool was it supposed to be, inquiring minds want to know.

This is what I did also , they have went up a little , still a much better route than the stage 1 Boom speakers for twice as much. They are 2 ohm speakers that match up well with the head unit , still running mine with out an amp for now sounds good.

Kappa on the left , stock on the right ,

I just ordered these the other day for $100 shipped, not as good a deal as msquad but still 1/2 the price of the Harley speakers that are not as good from a spec perspective.....I'll let you know how they work once I've had a chance to take the thing apart.
