ok so I'm all ready to order the Screaming Eagle ventilator elite air cleaner and I see this thread about converting the rushmore air cleaner. Started by "jones".
I've never had a bike or ridden one with the stage one and I got a couple questions. so the Fuel Moto option with $150 conversion will that flow as much air as say the Screaming Eagle ventalator Elite Or any other ac out there?
I have rush hi output duals coming and crusher slip ons. the only other mod I might consider would be a mild cam like the tts? I saw mentioned or one similar that was just a drop in.
the other question I have is I think it was "blues" who mentioned the sucking sound that can be heard with an exposed air filter. Is that loud enough to be annoying.. I chose the SE Ventilator cause i like the look and it appears to be lower profile but it has a lot of exposed filter..
any and all input would be appreciated.

Farmboy,
The FuelMoto website has the specifics of their air intake package. If memory serves me it flows 47% more than stock which really is not an issue except at high RPM. The backing plate is CNC machined and the parts are all black. This unit does not protrude noticeably farther into your leg space and is shielded from rain. It will support any engine mods you care to make. You will have to do a stage I EMC flash with any air intake modification. This I'd basically a better version of the one Zippers Performance sells.
The sucking I was referring to is the air passing into the throttle body much the same as taking the air cleaner and filter off your car. Or truck and blipping the throttle. Sounds cool for awhile but after years and years of street rods and Harley's I prefer the quiet of the wind and the gentle rumble of pipes. Also can hear tunes better if you have the infotainment center cranked on.

thanks for the info. I do like the looks of the rushmore ac cover. I could shoot it black and also like the idea of it being shielded from the rain.

If your thinking about a black cover there are several take offs listed on eBay at any given time and they usually go cheap. By the time you bought the paint and the etching primer to cover the chrome you would have a few bucks into it anyway and with a take off you have factory finish.

BluesBelly, Is that 47% MORE than the newer Rushmore A/C? IMHO-I find that really hard to believe. The "stock" Rushmore A/C system is an advanced improvement in airflow over the 2013 and earlier. In fact, I opted for the Screaming Eagle A/C system when I did all the work on mine and barely noticed the SE system being much of improvement over stock.

Mojo,
From my research I will agree that the Rushmore air intake system has improved air flow as well as the effect ram air by the housing scoop at speed. Indeed one could satisfactorially ride a completely stock HO 103 Harley not wanting more in the way of performance. However you and I know that that is not the nature of many HD enthusiasts! LOL!
The HD SE section of the parts book indicates the EMC needs a stage I flash using SE air cleaner assembly AND stock pipes which flow way better than folks believe. They also show a dyno chart indicating a modest increase in power. Generally speaking I believe a better HP gain can be realized by adding high flow intake assembly because of the larger filter coupled with a smoothed air flow friendly backing plate assembly. It does very little to improve TQ.

Product Description
Introducing the new Pro Billet air cleaner designed to work with the new 2014 Touring models 'Rushmore' cover. The new Pro Billet air cleaner not only retains the factory cover, but also increases the airflow by 47%! Due to the new air cleaner cover design being over twice the weight of the previous 'Football' style cover, the new Pro Billet air cleaner retains 360 degree support of the outer cover for durability purposes. The backing plate is machined from CNC 6061 billet and coated with a nice black finish. The Pro Billet offers a very fast and easy installation and is entirely made in the USA!

I was going to go with a local guy Mandrew recommended but I'll definitely check them out.
Thanks,
Mike

BluesBelly- I'm not about to challenge Jamie at Fuel Moto. Those guys know their stuff and have the research to back it up. My air/fuel measurement device don't work !

So I got the Fuel Moto stage 1 and I'm getting ready to install. The directions call for blue locate on the breather bolts.
I think I saw the guy on fix my hog recommend something like a pipe compound.
What do you guys think?

Farmboy,
I used thread locker on mine but the service manual (section 4.6) makes no mention of either!
