I've had both Ohlins 3-3 (model), and JRI As. The Ohlins were a better ride. I ascribe that to greater adjustability (they have a rebound damping adjustment, as well as pre-load).
The JRI-As are less expensive, but still offer a good ride. Not quite as compliant as the Ohlins, but still better than the stock air shocks.
I've had Progressive 440s and 940's on Road Kings. I preferred the 440s myself. The 940s seemed stiffer, like they were purpose-built for those who do a lot of two-up riding. I had the HD springs replaced on them, with the standard springs, and the ride was better. Problem was, after the replacement the shocks would bottom-out more frequently than I liked.
From my experience, the 440s and the JRI-As had similar ride characteristics. Based upon quality of build, I'd expect the JRIs to out-live the 440s. But that's very subjective. When you look at the two shocks, the JRIs look more like a racing part, well made, and built to hold up. The 440s are more like a consumer level product, made for moderate duty. Both these shocks--JRI and Progressive--gave me a smoother ride than the stock 12" air shocks.
I'm looking at upgrading to JRI-Bs. These have rebound damping adjustment like the Ohlins, and they're an American company.
