Tail Of The Dragon at Deals Gap 318 curvers over 11 Miles

I'm about an hour from Deals Gap. I much prefer the Cherohala Skyway.... it's curves are much more sweeping and much faster......
The Dragon is fun if you care to ride aggressive. Hard acceleration and hard braking. Otherwise, it's just a bunch of switchbacks that will make you seasick.
While it's awesome on a motorcycle, it's even fun in your car. I take my Vega, 2nd gen Trans Ams, and old air-cooled VWs across there just to get some pics from the photogs that set up there and take action photos of you and your ride.
Here's me and my (at the time) '83 year-old mother on the Dragon.

Spazz and I will be staying in a cabin right at the entrance of the Cherohala on our "September Birthday run" with a roaring creek in the backyard!

Mojo, looks like a pretty sweet spot. I'm gonna have to get out that way sometime soon and take in the sights.

Some good BBQ right there in Tellico Plains..... used to be an awesome bakery, too.
Definitely have to meet up when you guys get there.

Sounds like a good plan farmboy. A word of caution-try to avoid going directly into Gatlinburg because traffic has become a fulltime nightmare. There are plenty of places around that area in the Smokies to see and stay at.

If you're planning on being in and around, PM us and we'll link up. I'll check SGF often!

I might be up that way in September.. Going to my property in Washington County Tn.. I'll keep watching.. Btw.. The Old Highway 23 thru Madison county Nc and into Unicoi County Tn is a nice Twisty Ride.. Only done it in the car.. But defo on my list. It's cuts thru the Trail and thru farm land.. Nice scenic and NO BIG RIG TRUCKS allowed.

NOTICE .......Pigeon Forge area Sept 17-19........
The Fall Rod Run happens this weekend. Pigeon Forge will be gridlocked bumper-to-bumper with 1500+ hot rods, muscle cars and hundreds of cruising yea-hoos and spectators all day and most of the night (at least until 1-2 am).
The two or three mile stretch of Pigeon Forge will be lined with spectator's in camping chairs and pickup truck beds watching the cruisers/cars all night.
I have ridden a motorcycle through there during that weekend.... it wasn't pleasant. Especially, if it's hot out.
Cherohala and tail of dragon get some extra traffic that week, too.

bugdewde- You are correct, best to stay as far as possible away from Gatlinburg / Sevierville/Pigeon Forge.
We will not be anywhere near there however, there is always plenty of MC traffic everywhere that time of year!

Here are a couple very simple free maps, but help narrow down thoughts a trips. We go twice a year.
