I am thinking about swapping stock speakers on my 15 SGS for Boom 1 speakers without doing an amp at this time. Is there much difference in sound as opposed to the stock speakers or is it a waste of money? thanks!;)

Welcome,
A thread entitled "Boom 1 vs Boom 2" was posted a day or so ago and addresses your question.

My reply on that thread:

I have replaced the stock 5" speakers with Boom 1 speakers on my FLHX with stock 4.3 infotainment center. I have no additional amp. The Boom 1 units woke up the system with higher highs and lower lows and better clarity at volume which never exceeded 75%. My guess would be about 25% improvement or a bit more. I am satisfied with this level of sound and most likely will not add an amp although l'm sure there could be some improvement in doing so. How much? Can't say. On my recent trip to Sturgis I was not wanting more than the unit put out.

I did speakers and amp, but I was SHOCKED when I took out the factory speakers (huge PITA by the way). Wow, they were cheap/cheasy. Didn't realize they even made a magnet that small!

So, I would assume ANY 2 ohm speaker would sound better, but I sure wouldn't be putting any Harley Branded one (i.e. many better speaker choices for less $) in unless you can't do it yourself and you need the dealer to do it.

The Boom 1 speakers are of much better quality and design than the stock speakers. Are there better speakers? Maybe but not all speakers are better. If the stock amp is 25 watts per channel it will best drive a speaker that is matched to them as are the Boom 1. A huge speaker magnet driven by too low a wattage is mismatched and NOT a good performer. The Boom 1 speakers are indeed a good match for the stock system and also a small amp as they are rated at 75 watts each.
I will agree that they are expensive at $200 a pair. Got mine in new condition with grills as they were take offs. Paid $100 which I think is a fair price.

i also looked at Hogtune speakers as well. I had them in my 2011 and really liked them but havent heard much about them in the new Glides. Am i better to do the amp package as i am on a tight budget and am upgrading when i can afford it that is why i am looking at speaker first

I got a good deal on the Hogtunes front speakers and amp ($300) and I only wanted a bit more since at 75+ mph, the stock system was lacking. Speakers only would not have helped that. Seemed silly to me to take off the fairing and all the work to install the speakers, which is a pain, to not put in an amp (which was very simple). The real issue is the signal any amp gets anyway from the terrible HD head unit, so higher end amps/speakers isn't going to do much more.

Those Infinity Kappa 6.5s are awesome though and I happen to put a pair of those (the component variety) in my daughter's Mini Cooper last year and they really are terrific.

Save your money and buy something aftermarket. I have boom amp and boom 1 speakers. Spent 750$ didn't get 750$ value

+1 - My sound is better than stock but there are a lot better audio systems you can build that will sound better for the $ of this HD Boom upgrade.

Infinity Kappa 62.11 are about the best budget upgrade you can do

Arc audio makes several complete kits with speakers and amp included. There are different quality levels, but their top level speakers with amp kit plug and play it 550 on eBay. Check them out.
