Using communication port to listen to music through headphones

After spending a great deal of cash to upgrade my stereo system (which includes a JM Corp 250W amp, focal 165 KRC speakers in fairing and in custom made fiberglass speaker pods for the tour pack), my wife tells me the other day that she can't hear the stereo as well as she would like to on the highway. She mentioned Bluetooth, but they are way too pricey for me. I ended up buying an HD compatible 5 pin 3.5mm adapter and a 3.5mm Y adapter to plug into the communication port on my gas tank. Now we can both plug our Beats Ear Buds into the Y adapter, select the headphone option on the Infotainment system and listen to our music. Now, this is certainly not what I plan to do when riding solo, but I think it's a fair compromise for riding two-up. I was also much easier on my wallet, seeing as how spending $45 in parts vs several hundred for Bluetooth setups was much more reasonable.

That's a cool idea. Where'd you get the adapter from?

How did the helmet fit? After my last helmet purchase....I tried one on at the dealer and got my size then ordered it online but it was a different fit...same size but wouldn't fit.

Strangely I normally wear either a Lg or Xlg in helmets. In the SENA, I wear a Small!

I have the 6.5 head unit. I’d like the option to use my head phones like this, but I don’t have a com port. How do I get the com port?

Looks like it just plugs into the back of the head unit. Then run the cable down. Then use the adapter to 3.5 mm?

That's pretty close on installation. There is one dummy pin (white plastic pin), that you will have to remove from the factory wiring harness plug which sits on top of the radio/fairing stabilizer tray. Other than that, it's simply a matter of runing the communication cable through the wire tray on the backbone of the bike, cutting off a small piece of the rubber on the bottom left side of the center console (near the seat) and using supplied 3M tape/metal hook to stick the communication port to the gas tank.
