Hey guys, I'm new to the Harley world. I need an exhaust system, I can't stand bikes without em. I'm leaning more toward a Vance Hines Power Duals with High Output Slip-Ons. What is everybody's opinion on this setup. I've read that those slip-ons are more for bikes with bigger cams and more performance upgrades. Will these slip-ons still do the job and give me sound and power with the power duals? I don't plan on changing cams anytime soon, what are yall's recommendations?

Can't go wrong with Vance and Hines. Just my opinion. I am running the power duals and my biked loved it. Your bike will run so much cooler with this setup and sound way better then stock. Go for it.

HO'S will work with stock 103's but work much better with built motors. Look into the OS 450'S. Destroyers or Raiders... full length tapered baffles that will work better on stock engines

How big of a difference will it be if I went with destroyer or raiders?

IMHO... the Raiders, Destroyers and Titan's are more suited for a stock 103 with their design over the HO's. I 'believe' you will have a better torque curve on the bottom end over the HO's due to design differences. HO's are really made to enhance the built motors that move a lot of air. v/H website even states it quite clearly:

Designed specifically to address the needs of tuned motors built for high horsepower applications, (hi compression, large displacement, big cams). Every aspect of the Hi-Output slip-on's design is singularly focused to yield maximum horsepower by improving the volumetric efficiency of heavily modified engines as well as stock.

This statement rings loud and clear.... if you are built.... you will be pleased... if you are stock.... it will 'work' but not as designed.... noise maker with much torque loss on the bottom end.

I have the the powerduals and the ho slip ons on my 14 sgs love them also went with the se heavy air breather and screaming eagle race tuner after the dyno. ... came out with 92 hp and 111ftlbs great product with great sound and gains!

I run power duals and OS destroyer with FP3....couldn't be happier. Had street cannons with stage 1 ac and stock header...just to raspy for my ears.

Vance Hines Power Duals with High Output Slip-Ons

The HO mufflers will kill the power of a stock bike by as much as 15 hp. Doc tuned the bike and proved how much of a loss there is/was in using them. If you took a 2x4 and covered 1/2 the muffler opening the power came back. Highly recommend not using on a stock or even lightly modified bike.

Would recommend the crusher mufflers to go with the power duals. The kuryakin head pipe is the same pipe as the V&H with just a different cosmetic cover over the crossover.

Actually I am running them with Street Cannons and they work GREAT!!

Lots of low end torque and still sound good when I get on it.........If you already have some slip-ons it might be worth a try (what I did) before buying the HO mufflers. Maybe even try a set of CVO take-offs which can be had inexpensively on eBay and then if you later build the motor your power-duals will still be there to accept the HO mufflers......that's my thinking at least and so far (with an FP3) it seems to be working out.

First hand experience and knowledge of power loss with HO'S on a stock 103....

Priceless!

Like @chaderick said, you really cannot go wrong with anything that Vance & Hines has to offer. That being said, the Hi-Output Slip-ons are specifically designed for high compression, large displacement bikes with big cams so if you are going to be running the OEM motor set-up you might not be as happy with this set-up because of you won't get quite the performance as the slip-ons are designed for. You will certainly get better sound but performance will likely be a bit off.

If you like the 4.5" diameter of the Hi-Output Slip-ons but want something that is designed to work well with the OEM motor combination, then I'd encourage you to take a look at either of V&Hs 450 Slip-on styles (links below). Each of these are 4.5" in diameter so they will really fill in the back of the bike, plus when combined with the Power Duals you'll get very good sound as well as performance gains. The only difference between the three are the end cap style which are available in either black or chrome finish.

You guys are right. I called Vance Hines and they said the same thing. But they also said since the 450 series are the same diameter, i could possibly be losing power as well. The tech recommended the Monsters. Has anyone ever heard those? Do they sound good?

One of my brothers runs Monster Ovals with Powerduals.... way too quiet to me for what they are... Maybe monster rounds are louder but no personal experience with them

Hi, I have a 2016 RGS. I just called V & H twice and spoke to different representatives, they both guaranteed that I wouldn't lose any low end torque with Power Duals, Hi Outputs, a tuner, a high flow air filter and a dyno. I also spoke to several service people at HD dealerships and my friend, who repairs and builds motorcycles. ALL of them assured me that I'll see an increase of power rather than loss of low end torque. I still respect your opinion and would like to hear more detailed information on why you think they are not a great fit. I would really appreciate your input, thank you.
P.s. Also, how would you compare the HO with the 450 Oversized, as far as sound and performance? Thanks again.

V/H website states the HO'S are designed for bigger motors... they breathe more due to design... you will have gains of course, but lose the lose end benefit. 450'S are a stepped baffle and designed more for a stock motor.... all this is on their website to read.

I have destroyers on mine with D&D headers..I love it and sounds like no other bikes...
Also a Thunder Max tuner. Yes it did cost a bit but I feel it was worth the price. After 4 months the bike screams...

Tell us what you did besides tuner and exhaust to arrive at 100 hp.

I'm curious about that HP number too. That is OUTSTANDING for Stage One bolt ons and "any" tuner or ECM replacement module. I'd like to know if there are cams or some head porting Scharrin ain't sharin' with us. At least give us a hint. ...& Scharrin, if you don't mind sharing, at what rpm range are you seeing that HP? I'm gonna' be heading back to my dyno tuner in Central FLA this coming Thursday to see if he can squeeze a little more outa' mine.
Thanx,
Rusty
EDIT. EDIT. EDIT....
Spoke to my dyno tuner by phone. Says I'll NEVER see 100 HP on my 2015 (Rushmore) touring model with the 103" HO motor with just doing a stage one upgrade, no matter what tuning device I used. Would have to at least do cams & maybe bigger displacement or ported heads. Not gonna' waste my $$$ on another tuning session for now, so my roadtrip is off. Maybe down the road I'll step up to some motor work or just go ahead with a crate full of 120ST .
