What's your favorite tire?

My bike is over 20k on the original set of tires and they're starting to get thin and slippery in the rain. They haven't hit the wear bars yet but I'm looking to get new tires in the next few weeks (or a rear, at least). So I figured I'd ask what's your favorite tire for these bikes?

I put Dunlop American elites on my fld but didn't get to test them for long to really form an opinion. If I buy Harley tires from Chandler Harley, they don't charge to install but I've been unimpressed by the oem tires. They squirm if you even look at a tar snake! And they've been getting much worse as they wear out, slipping all over in the rain and pavement marketing, not to mention Phoenix's brilliant idea of painting the crosswalks downtown which are slick enough even when they're dry!

I just bought a set of Dunlop American Elites after wearing out a set of Avon Cobras in about 8000 miles.

I love the Dunlop American Elites. I usually get around 20K mi on the rear riding 90% highways and I'm due for a new front tire now after 24,350mi. I'm happy with how they handle in most conditions. No tire is perfect.

When the time comes, I will go American Elite. I have a buddy of mine that runs them and got closed to 15k.... The stock set he had before, only 8k... and he rides like I do.... Im going to two Elites on the next change. I only got 7200 on my stock rear and in a pinch, threw on another.

I like the Avon . they are softer and wear faster but I get better traction. So far i have 5000 on the rear with a little life left maybe 1000-2000. but i ride very aggressive and have been known to leave rubber on the road when shifting between 1st an 2nd. I am looking into a set of Shinko hookup for traction.

The Shinko Hookup is a great tire! I used them on my old GSXR-1000 drag bike and it hooked extremely well. It's not a high mileage tire, but if hooking up is what you're looking to do it will fit the bill.

Dang! Were you doing burnouts on the stock rubber? I'm at 7100 on my stock tire and it looks like I have about another 7-8K of life left in it (unless of course I start burning rubber), LOL.

I know Spazz wouldn't do a burn out but we all get a little slip getting into it 1st, 2nd, 3rd. City riding is fun sometimes with light traffic and we play just a little to much maybe. Have the Elite on the rear now and pretty happy with it. Time will tell, averaged about 13,000 out of the stock tires so hoping the Elite will give a little more. Still running the stock on the front and have one more tire to go before I get them worn out.

No burnouts... but I do ride agressively....hard starts and stops...

Remember I have the 120ST... no slouch for sure

Just pulled the trigger on American elites to be installed next weekend. Dealer price is $520 + free install, versus $320 from motorcycle superstore + $200 install.

I'm with Spazz the stock tires are ok at best. I get about 8kout of a rear. The former Dunlops they used I would get about 6k max.

I got about 14k out of my stock rear on the 2014. I'm guessing with this new engine I might break 8K!

So you guys like AM Elites to MC II ? Had MC IIs on the old bike and liked the stick, but sold before they wore out so not sure how long they last.

I've never even come close to wearing out the original tires on any bike I've owned. I guess I ride like a sissy, or don't keep the bikes long enough! 😁

Ha.. I'll go with the latter.. I've got about 12k on it and the back still looks good but its wearing. Front of course could go forever.. But I like swapping them at the same time.

My 2014 SG Has the stock factory tires. Never been a Dunlop fan. On my EVO's I switched over to Avon's and got great mileage out of them. Curious to see what type of mileage I get out of these on the SG

Just following up after my purchase of the American elites now that I've put a few weeks on them. They are definitely a lot more grippy in dry and wet conditions. I've ridden in the rain twice since buying them and have nothing but praise to speak of them. No more 'death wobble' in the corners and even the stupid painted crosswalks are less of a worry. Lane stripes are still slick but that's something that can't be fixed without adding more tires. Since I have the milage on my receipt from install I will be excited to see how long they last in comparison to the stock tires. Of course it's going to take a few months to wear these out ;p

Michelin Commander II for this Az boy. Hands down the best tire I have had in years. Get 18 to 20k easily. . . . .
