Where should my voltage gauge sit?

14-14.5. Run a multimeter across your battery while it's running to see if your gauge is reading right.

Definatly check the battery with a volt meter.. Anything over 15 for extended period of time indicates a bad charge situation

You'll end up cooking your battery...maybe something else.

Yes, 16 is bad. Like corey45k says, check the battery directly with a volt meter to make sure. Good luck!

If I'm correct(electricity not my forte. Above 15 is probably bad voltage regulator and over charging(cooking) your battery cells.. 8-10 is usually dead cells in battery.. Can't ever hold the charge

You are correct, Sir!

Agree above. I would only use the gauge as a reference. If you want to be sure how much voltage is getting to the battery use a meter. I work in the RV industry where "battery's " are a big deal.. 90% of issues are developed by user error and lack of proper care. I always check my batteries and make sure they are in tip top condition. A good low input trickle charge is a batteries best friend.. Rapid input at high amps will destroy any battery.
