Which flash for 2018 SGS with Boom Audio II amp and speakers?

I will be installing my Boom Audio II amp and fairing speakers, as soon as I get my bike back from the dealership. I have searched high and low regarding the proper flash procedure for both the amp and speakers and I am as confused as ever. I believe the flash procedure has even changed several times since the introduction of the Rushmore bikes. Can anyone tell me with absolute certainty, which flash is needed? I would like to have the dealership perform the flash before they deliver the bike back to me, but I am not sure if this is an option. I read a couple of posts in a thread on another forum which said that the speakers and amp need to be installed before the flash. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure you can't do this yourself. The dealer is the only one that can flash the radio and it can only be done after installation. DON'T turn the radio on after you install the amp and speakers.

I am pretty sureYou can flash it yourself. I have no idea how to do it, but I know there are some on this site that will know how too.

Roger that! I was hoping to have the dealer do it before they deliver the bike back to me after they fix the oil leak. I'll ask if it can be done before the components are installed when the service department calls me. I'll report back here when I have the answer.

They should be able to flash it before you install as that's what I had done. I know Harley has scaled back what can be flashed but there are after market guys who have equipment to do it right now.

OK that's what they are telling you but the system can be flashed before the install. Nothing has changed with the system since 14. I know some of the capabilities for the digitech have been scaled back to stop the after market installs and keep the in house stuff going. When I had mine done back in 15 the Harley shop put the wrong flash in and had to redo it a second time with the help of Spazz.

I believe you Tom. They may have just told me that because they are already dealing with a warranty issue on my brand new bike with 268 miles on it and they don't want to risk getting something wrong with the radio and having to deal with that too.

They don't want the liability...they CAN flash it, but it will throw codes since it cannot find the amp(s) because they are not installed.

The other issue is... they want to know exactly what you installed so they can flash correctly. Telling them is one thing... them seeing the installed equipment is another... this way they can ensure it's all working correctly.

I always flash head units BEFORE I install any system... but that is to protect the components I am installing

So.. if they want the system installed FIRST... do not turn it up until the flash is correctly done... you have to have it on... but no volume...

I gotcha Spazz. I will make sure that the radio is off after the install and before the flash.

this is correct, i'm a harley tech and the new software won't allow the flash without the amp or amps installed. the ecu & infotainment system require them to be installed so the software can recognize the correct locations for the corresponding radio flash.

Cool! Thank you. I will install the equipment and then take it in to get it flashed. Would you suggest removing the fuse to the radio too, so that there is no risk of damaging the amp or speakers before the flash?

So I'm curious - does the flash update the Boom Head unit, the amp or both?

The flash is solely for the head unit to flatten the EQ curve within ... this allows for a more constant input signal to the amp when flattened out. That is why once flashed, you turn off the speed volume control as it will change the output of the head unit to the amp causing all kinds of distortion
