Why I don't run Dunlops

I've been riding those same Dunlops for over 6 years as well as many other people I know and have never heard of an issue like this. I think you just got unlucky and got a bad tire or the installer messed up when mounting it and blamed it on Dunlop. Should have taken a picture of the out of round condition, I'm having a hard time picturing this.

Oh, I'm sure that all of them wouldn't be as bad as the ones installed on my Bike, but after experiencing that I didn't want to take any more chances. Besides, that was the last set he had in stock and my tires were toast, so I needed to get something else put on immediately.
I thought I had it on video when he had it on the stand checking the tire, but I don't.

After reading this I'm thinking you got a bad tire. Had a brother that had the same issue with the Michelin commander and they replaced it and no problems since. I'm running the American elite and have had good luck so far. My big thing is finding a tire I can get some mileage out of. Living in Nevada there is a lot of straight freeway riding and it takes it's toll on the center of the tire. Last couple rears had lot's left on the sidewalls.

Sample size of one doesn't make a good data set. I can think of so many products that I've had a single bad experience with but plenty of other good experiences with the same brand! Hell, just last week or so I found this huge nugget of pure flavor powder in my doritos. What did I do? Admitted it, took a picture and ate the rest of the bag.

Cars, bikes, guns, phones, tools.... Don't let one failure turn you off a whole brand.

You make a good point, but Doritos with extra flavor sounds like a double win!

Well if you find a rear tire that lasts let me know. My rear tire no matter the brand on a touring bike is always shot at 8000 miles.

I have had good luck with the stock HD tires that came on my bike. I also have used Dunlop tires for many years with no issues. I think it was a manufacturing defect which can happen!
I had 14K on the rear and 21K on the front of the OEM Dunlops before having to change which I think is pretty good compared to the old days of maybe 7K-8K on a rear and 12K-14K on a front.
I'm 6'-4" @ 265# and I do carry some tools and such in my bags as well as 2-up when my gal is on the back so there considerable weight on the tires. I also consider myself a somewhat aggressive rider.
I have never been impressed with the low wear factors of Metzler tires as reported to me by fellow riders. A friend just changed his Metzlers on his bagger going back to stock Dunlops. He pulled the Metzlers which did not even have 10K and were badly worn, and in the remaining tread sipes on either side of the center of the tread of the rear tire, rubber was separating so the cords were exposed.
