Will installing an FP3 void the Harley warranty?

Just wondering if using an FP3 on my bike will void the warranty?

HD would have to prove that the FP3 caused the problem.

Could a faulty aftermarket product cause a problem that a dealership would blame on it ? Yep.

That has not stopped millions of us from adding aftermarket parts to our bikes.

Technically yes. They can do whatever they want since the FP3 does not comply with California emissions standards. (I have it on my 2017). But "F-em" in California! I can always use my FP3 to revert back to stock HD tuner Stage 1 map if needed. Dealers like profits, that's a big reason they sell Non Harley parts and they will tell you "no problem as long as you buy here and have us install here. They are risking big fines by EPA and refusal to honor warranty from Harley if they can prove aftermarket components led to issues with your bike. It's not often done but as recent as last Christmas a Harley Zone Mgr told a dealer they would blacklist a RK sitting in the showroom with V&H pipes if they sold it that way. Dealer removed the pipes. Scare tactics??? Anyones guess most especially on the 2017's.

Good info guys. Hadn't thought of reverting back to stock if need be

Mister B- What I did was add the Stage 1 kit WITH the HD tuner at the dealer. The I added the FP3 later which automatically saves original Map for you

the fp3 stamps an imprint on your ecu, even if you go back to stock map, harley knows it was flashed at one point, kinda like when you root and android device

Probably true on this... BUT.... most dealers ( if you KNOW them ) won't go that far... especially if you are a 'good customer'. Pays to make friends with you dealership. Case in point... my 120ST needed a rebuild at 7200 miles ( another story ).... but even with a PV, Wideband O2 module and Thunder Header.... THEY TOOK CARE OF ME... I am " IN GOOD" with my dealership..... it goes a long way for you....

that is correct spazz, but if it is a serious warranty issue, the reps come in and they definately check

Understandable... and in my case, a complete top end including jugs on up to include heads.

It pays to be 'friends' with your dealership.... that's my point... not saying it works every time, but most...

All- As I understand this from several sources, the EPA/Warranty rules mostly target the M8 models since all this came about (EPA fines etc.) with the new engine time frame.

That is what I understood as well from my dealership and my buddy's dealership. They both made it sound like they only really are targeting the M8. Luckily it is such a strong motor in the first place.

What motor is the M8?

My understanding is, and as it states in the HD language, they are not allowed to warranty any bikes further by that agreement including pre-M8's for being non-EPA compliant. Its easier with the M8's because the bike gets plugged into the system and it reports to HD.

Spazz, glad you had good luck. several of the Dealers I have talked to will still do the work and are still pushing stage kits and aftermarket exhausts but recommend the HD tuner as the best way to attempt to maintain the warranty but if called on it, any non-50 state item non EPA compliant voids it

This EPA really sucks... You have billions of super polluting huge trucks in the states and they target bike owners...

I use the FP3 but can change back to my HD tuner installed w/Stage 1 if needed. I will not bow to California's pollution mandates as adopted by the EPA .
