WTF Is That Brake Noise?

I have a very strange brake noise I'm trying to diagnose, hoping someone can help me out. 2015 SGS, 8500kms/5300miles. Had the rear tire replaced a week ago, and never noticed the problem until after that.

It's not brake squeak, it's not grinding, I really don't know what it is... It only happens under light-to-moderate brake pressure at LOW speeds just as I'm rolling to a stop. When it happens, I can feel the vibration in the entire bike. I caught it on video too, so you guys can take a listen and see what you think.

In this video (the strange sound starts at 3 seconds), I am only touching the rear brake, although technically this bike has linked brakes so I suppose it is possible it is coming from the front.

Before saying "take it to the dealer", I already did, and they couldn't find anything, even after showing them this video.

Thanks everyone.

Yikes, that is one strange sound. I think at that speed the brakes are no longer linked so I suspect it is definitely coming from the rear. Almost sounds like a pad is not bedded down and shimmies at slow speed? Possible FOD in there? Prob not as the mechanic had a thorough look see and found nothing. Id take it apart and check for torque values, debris, pad/rotor condition. No disrespect to your dealer, but no one cares more about your bike than you do.

Just a dumb question, but is the rotor between the pads in the caliper? Is the caliper installed and tightened down correctly?

^ A quick visual inspection and everything looks good. The brakes seem to work just fine most of the time, other than low speed light-to-moderate brake pressure.

I'm going to pull the caliper off, clean it, re-lube the back of the pads and the pin, then re-install everything to the torque specifications and see what happens.

Sounds like something is going on in the manifold under the right side of the bike. Mine was kindah making a funny sound like that about 2 weeks ago but it went away. Mine too was also when applying the back brakes. Still a mystery to this day on what it was tho.

I would take it back to the dealer until they decided to fix it. There is a obvious problem with something.

Kind of a honking sound that you can feel? My VRod would do that occasionally. In that case it turned out to be something getting on the belt. The belt would make a honking groaning sound at low speed. Cleaned it up and it would go away until the next time I rode it in the rain or somewhere dusty. Never happened with my Dyna and hasn't happened with the Street Glide yet.

It is possible that it is the rear wheel bearing. They can make weird noises when bad

I had an issue when I had my tires changed, turned out that the rear wheel bearing was jacked up. Sounded like a stick in the spokes when stopping. Check the wheel bearing.
