2014 Boom 4.3 Audio Issues

i figured.. they also forgot the pocket on the left side of the radio. :p

Yeah that perplexed me too. When I saw that Project Rushmore had yet another missed opportunity I started trying to figure out how to put a pocket on that side. But, HD will probably make that one of 2015's model changes. Another rant I have is: WHY does the fuel door lid only open a short 40 degrees??????

Exactly, they put the compartment on the right and fill half of it with foam so all you can get in there is an ipod, and just block off the left side. Not a good design and wasted space. This radio was clearly not well thought out for all the hype about it, and it clearly wasn't ready for release either. I'll deal with it and keep hoping that some aftermarket units come out soon.

Agreed mojo, they should have had the gas cap open the other direction IMO.

The foam pulls right out. I have a samsung galaxy note 3, and there's no way to plug it in, and I can barely get the door closed after removing the foam. As a matter of fact, the phone fell out on a residential street at about 15-20mph after the door popped open. Luckily the phone was spared with only a minor dent in the corner. The pocket is now storing my garage opener.

Fuel doors used to open the other way, however, in a collision you slide forward up the gas tank. Fuel doors had an evil tendency to open when pressed on and slice off any low hanging body parts as the person slid forward on a trip over the handlebars. These dudes then got jobs singing soprano.

downforce137- I thought about doing that and had seen a couple guys do it, for the time being I just keep my ipod there so it's not a huge deal. Not having a left side door was a poor decision though. Watch for it on the 2015 model ;)

hulkss- never thought of that but very good point.

Overall I really like the bike and just turned over to 8K miles, don't have any major issues, just radio ones that don't seem to be well thought out. The one thing that really irks me is that if you want a feature turned on like the intercom/CB it's going to cost you, that's nickle & dimming us IMO, for what these bikes cost and what HD wants for parts the least they could have done was turn on all the radio features. A corporate mindset at its best I guess.

Guys
A clarification on the fuel door and a fix for the phone pocket:
I just would like to see the fuel door open further so you can actually get one of those fuel nozzles with the big rubber boot inserted.
Now, about the phone pocket, I took the fat rubber filler panel completely out and went to a craft store and got some 1/16 black adhesive backed foam and cut it to fit. I can put my billfold and Iphone in there now! I posted pics on this in an earlier post in tips n tricks a few months back.

Has anyone used the usb for an sd card? How does that work? I thought i read somewhere that i can plug in a flash drive into the usb which would be nice (no batteries being drained like from an i pod).

I use a USB Flash Drive on mine and it works great.

Getting an SMS sync error with iPhone 5s. Everything else works fine. My contacts are synced but I get the SMS error when selecting inbox. Anybody have any info on this issue? I have the 4.3 system.

2014 Boom 4.3 Audio Issues

I'm now getting a unknown artist/play list message. I tried unpairing and repairing and was unsuccessful.

Been meaning to ask, did the stock foam come out in one piece or was it destroyed removing it ?

I took it out in 1 piece, used it for a pattern and saved it. I keep both my billfold AND iPhone in there now!

FYI...I figured out the problem. I went into the Bluetooth settings on my iPhone and selected the little blue exclamation point next to where it lists Harley Davidson as paired then enabled show notifications. Actually everything is enabled now, works fine.

I just keep em in my pocket as I have a habit of forgetting that the phone was in that compartment, let alone my wallet, especially since it doesn't lock...

I'm glad you got it worked out. I had the same issue with the Ford MyTouch on my Explorer.

There doesn't seem to be a thread on the 4.3 radio issues so I'll start one up.

Not long after purchasing my 14SG the radio started doing whatever it wanted to, screen going blank while the music still played was the most common so far, and when that happens the radio controls don't work (mostly can't forward to next song but sometimes the volume will work). Last night the damn thing still played even with the bike completely shut off, I had to physically pull the ipod connection to get it to stop playing. Other issues are the radio randomly restarts itself, screen freezes but music still plays. I'm using an ipod nano, I also tried my brothers brand new ipod with no luck.

I've had it in to the dealer once, I have the latest update installed as well which seemed to help for a couple days then it's right back to the same issues. Anyone else experiencing this?

I'm having the same issue! Did the radio replacement solve the problem, Scott14SG?
I'm taking mine to the dealer on tuesday and I'll tell them about your problem and the replacement solution.

Yes it did, when I took it in again they were finally able to see that the radio just stayed in a restart loop. Service tech said yes that thing has gone crazy and we'll replace it under warranty. Had it back in about 5 days.

wow this is still an ongoing issue, I got a software update in January this year (2015) and now just to add to the issues the screen flickers between day and night even when set for manual adjustment, got the radio and flash stick back working ok, was very disappointed to learn that the blue tooth was compatible with everything except a blue tooth headset.

Not sure if anyone else is having this problem with their 4.3 , but whenever I connect via bluetooth it will play normal the sound like it is fast forwarding. I have tried different ipods. I downloaded 1.18.2 that didn't fix it. I will try 1.18.3 tonight.

One year since I purchased my 2014 Street Glide and my radio is going to be replaced for the second time.
It's unbelievable that such a huge bike has a so bad sound system. Seems like Rushmore Project was finished and before a couple of weeks to go, someone said: hey, we need a new sound system! And then, they called Harman Kardon and asked if they could develop something very quickly.
I wonder if the 6.5 boom box has the same issues. I'm thinking on upgrading to the Street Glide Special just to get rid of this annoying sound system.
I love the bike but this radio is a joke!

I haven't had any issues since mine was replaced, but I do see complaints about the 6.5 as well. I think the problem, at least from everything I've read is just a poor choice of software all around. It's been my only complaint about the bike, everything else is great so far.
