Drilling out the cat

I drilled out the cat on my 2012 Street Glide. I wanted to try drilling before cutting it open because I didn't want to risk it rusting in the welded area after. I started with a 1 1/4 spade bit on a drill extension, but it broke. It was a bit of a pain, and probably took longer than it would have to cut it open, but I got it done, and it's clean.

Nice. Finally drilled out mine also. Was so worth it.

SG-Jay,
A lot of people discount (poo poo) on the Nightrider system but actually it's the best inexpensive solution out there. I had the VIED on my former RK and it worked quite well.

Thanks Harleymojoman, I plan on putting CFR's and an A/C on it before spring, so I will probably get a PV for it. HawnHog, did you notice a difference in power without the cat and baffles? It sounds loud...lol

Lol!! Sg yea my wife doesn't like the annoying loud. Think the saddle bags block most of the sound toward the rider and passenger. We went on a 30-40 mile cruise and she didn't complain. Lol!! As for the power difference I think it's the same as stock I don't think I lost the low end on it.

For bout 115 with shipping for the vied it was worth it.

Nope got the vied set at about 60% an it's perfect. Running great.

I have mine at 50%... rhinehart 3.5" stock headpipe and stock AC... runs perfect with no decel pop and tips are golden brown after 100 miles... totally happy withe FL-VIED-10

A little update. I bought CFR's from Lindsey at Iron Aces, removed the cat, replaced the a/c with a fuel moto billet unit and bought a powervision. The exhaust is on, but fuel moto sent the wrong cable for the pv, so I'm waiting on the new one, they shipped it out right away. I have started it and wow is it loud! The sound is exactly what I was looking for, I was just hoping for a little less volume...lol. I can't wait to ride it at this point.

I don't mean to get off topic, but I have cfr's with the vied 10 installed, stock a/c and stock head pipes with the cat in them. Has anyone noticed a negative difference with the vied installed? Maybe I'm just overthinking things, but it appears that my exhaust is a little quieter and there is a little more engine noise, not exhaust, but noise I can hear from the engine. I took the vied 10 off yesterday and noticed my exhaust was much louder. Any thought??

Blkbrd haven't had any excessive engine noise. Have bout the same set up 4 inch rc exhaust slip ons, no baffle, no cat ,stock head pipe and stock air cleaner.

The VIED will lower your exhaust gas temperature and that will effect the sound. The speed of sound in a gas is proportional to the square root of the absolute temperature. The frequency of any acoustic resonances in the exhaust will shift with the speed of sound.

Makes sense, thank you hulkss. And as far as the engine noise, it's not excessive, just little things I notice here and there. I'm probably just hearing stuff that I haven't payed attention to.

Plus I'm sure an engine code would be thrown if there was an issue

Wow Hulkss! That's deep, you must know what you're talking about because I noticed my exhaust sounded different after the Dyno

I assume they tuned the AFR on the dyno changing the exhaust temperature.
