Hey guys,

Got a 2012 Harley Street Glide FLHX, it currently has factory exhaust. I went up to a local Harley dealership this weekend to get some oil and was discussing getting a exhaust system for the bike. The guy said to do it right I need to have 3k set aside. He said that will get me the vance and hines complete exhaust, fuel pack, and a air intake and tuned. Does this seem right to you guys or is that high? Is there a better alternative? Im no stranger to turning wrenches but I also understand the need for a tune afterwards as I do not want to mess up my motor.

Thanks guys,

You can get away MUCH cheaper doing it yourself... my Pro Pipe was $585 and $300 for FP3.... SE AC was $150...install yourself, drop a tune in it, run an auto-tune session and run with it.... done.

SLIPONS are like $400-600... so if you keep the stock headpipe... you are just under 1k for everything.

The FP3 is for CANBUS systems... not sure if the 2012 is CANBUS or not...that is my only concern.. you may need a different tuner.

Thanks Spazz!!!

I was looking at this kit http://www.jpcycles.com/product/443-681 for $432 with free shipping its thats headpipe and everything back I believe and thats a Vance and Hines kit which I see on alot of bikes.

Then I saw the fuelpak or the power commander is like another $350

and I dont know what an air intake would cost but say its another $350.

$432+$350+$350=$1132. Now maybe the guy at Harley includes a dyno tune or something. Can I tune it myself? or do I have to go somewhere?

Thanks,

If you get a tuner that allows you to auto-tune... you don't need a dyno... some tuners are used solely on a dyno which can cost over $300 AFTER you buy a tuner. ... so you have to be careful on what tuner you get

That is only the header pipe! You would have to purchase the mufflers separate!

Harley is just going to suck you dry of your money.. So best the best thing you can do is think about what you want to achive. What matters the most to you. Example i wanted sound and performance so I had to go with at least a 2 in 1 exhaust and a PC5. Sound is all you want and performance is nice but not the end goal then get slipons and maybe a catless header. Up to 2013 you really should tune, fuel pak3 PC5, xieds you need something if you are doing everything.

315.00 - PC5 - with map of what your setup is
170.00 - Air Cleaner
Full Exhaust 2-1 700.00 - 1200.00 or Just slip ons 175.00 - 600 depends on what you want to spend

I want sound/performance. So with that being said I want to do full exhaust basically from the head back. I want to do an air intake and a tuner so it has optimal air/fuel ratio and I dont run the risk of damaging the motor. I dont really care if I run screamin eagle, rinehart, or vance and hines. But I do want dual exhaust as I like the look of that the most. It makes the bike look balanced in my opinion. Any suggestions for the best/most cost effective was to achieve this?

Thanks,

1QWK96GT- A quick, easy suggestion: Read thru some of our past posts on performance tips and then also look at some of our SGF Sponsors. They have the parts and know how to hep you with upgrades.

It sounds like you already know what basic parts you need Head pipes , slip-ons ,air cleaner , and tuner the rest is researching webs sites to find the best price on the parts you want you have to decide the brand and style you want and how much you are willing to spend if your looking for cheep buy a de-catted head pipe off e-bay and find some used slip-on pick out a tuner and an air cleaner it won't get much more cost effective then that

Got a 2012 (New to me) FLHX.... Stock hdr decatted, RC mufflers, Hyper Charger (Like the look of the hyper), and V&H FP3 tuner. Installed all one day, spent 30mins on phone with V&H tech/upload map/download updated map..... Runs like a scalded dog....
