2014 Engine Mechanical Noise

This is my first 103 so I'm not sure if the noises are normal or not (my other HD was a V-Rod), I had my bike serviced while on a trip and they said it was normal but I can't say they actually looked at it. On the highway it purrs like a kitten but at idle it doesn't sound right to me, I just don't know what engine noise to check off.
Yup, they are all normal to a point. My last H-D clattered so much I was sure it was going to fail one day but it never did. My new one is amazingly quiet. It basically just makes exhaust noise.
mine sounds good most the time but 3 times after a hot restart i get a loud rattle noise on the rt side of the engine. the only way to get it tp stop is let it cool down. then the noise is gone. it goes to the dealer next week I hope the ycan find the issue
Mine is actually quite than most of my buddies bike. On the other hand my friends sg has only a little noise. In neutral at idle there is a clacking sound. If he squeezes the clutch in it all goes away. Curious to see if anyone else has this same noise.

Mine runs more quiet than most. My friends sg has a slight clacking sound when in neutral at idle. Soon as he pulls in clutch lever it all goes away. Curious to know what causes this on his bike and not mine.

My engine sounds fine, but, I still have a metal to metal sound when I play with the clutch. It does not sound internal.????
The last 3 posts sound like you are all experiencing the neutral rattle that many others are dealing with. I don't understand why it appears that some bikes have this issue, and others don't. "If" it is the "normal" gear backlash causing this like MoCo claims, it would seem like all six speeds would make this noise?
I'm with Scott14SG. I wish it was quiet at idle!! I hear a lot of valve noise at around 40 mph in 3rd and/or 4th gear. After that, everything sounds good. Oil pressure seems to be good. Level is good so I am not too concerned. All 3 of my Touring models made noises I didn't like hearing.
Mine is noisier that I'm used to - sounds like noisy lifters, and the primary whines a bit. Earplugs and Stereo help a lot - I think I'm getting used to it too! Ridden a couple of mates bikes and they're not much different. Seems they are all noisy in some way, not all the same though. A guy I ride with, his CVO SG primary whines like a blower!
I think it's normal for these bikes. Long term - time will tell. Not 100% sure the quality control on assembly, or the tolerances, are that great. I know Harley has solved some problems in the past by just increasing the acceptable tolerance range!! (ie crank runout).
Interestingly, the engine in my mild 95" 2004 dyna is as quiet as a mouse, except for the Mikuni slide rattle. And the primary is silent, tight, no play or slop, no clunking, and shifts like a jap bike.
