Hi

During winter im considering a stereo upgrade.

I was looking at the J&M Rokker, but it seems they do not have any dealers in Norway, and with postage costs and VAT into Norway it will be a very high priced alternative.

What do you guys consider to be the best upgrade to a 2015 Street Glide Special?

Acknowledging that there is some subjectivity in naming the "best" audio for your streetglide, I vote for arc audio for an amp, and focal or hertz for your speakers. Arc might sale direct if there is not a distributor near you. Focal has dealers in Norway; Hertz will help you find an authorized retailer.

+1 on Soundz. Pete is a great guy who will put together a complete plug and play set up for you.

+3 on SoundzCustomz

Talk to Peter via email from his site... he will give you all the details you need to know... awesome guy to work with

That being said..... your cost for shipping is the concern. So ANY upgrade you get stateside will cost you an arm and leg... a few fingers and toes.

+5 on the Soundz Customz. This system is plug and play with a few easy mods to your speaker pods.

Love my JM Rokker extreme. I'm sure they will sell direct. I bought mine direct and they give a discount for this site.

Why? What kind of music do you listen to? How loud? Any distortion?

Bad first experience with Hogtunes, and I am leary about dumping money into crap...

I listen to everything but mostly rock, southern rock, and classic rock. I have the most random playlist it can go from Johnny Cash to disturbed.

One of the simple things I like is a single 500 watt amp under the front fairing no amp in the saddle bags everything was plug and play wire color matching and looks 100% stock.

Every week we go on a ride to the river with a couple hundred bikes some pretty custom. Everyone says my stereo is the best. But I believe that's mostly against the standard competitors hogtunes Harley boom self built.

As for distortion it comes solely down to the quality of the mp3 I have found and I had some recordings that are 10 years old and some that are 10 days old and obviously the new were the better so I'm going to get some of my older music reprocessed. Since technology and storage have improved you can record larger files.

Spazz has some videos on YouTube of his system and although it sounds awesome I think mine is just as good and settings are pretty similar. I just need to post my videos for comparison.

I definitely wouldn't be afraid to try the system Spazz has, but went for the Rokker. The 15-20% or so he gives off for site membership helped me pull the trigger.

Just something to think about that, I have seen several members on here try to save some money with the cheaper set ups only to buy a different one later. Have read some horrible stories about sending stuff back and it not working right or just plain junk. If your going to do this once do it right and save up and spend the money for a good system or you will pay later buying another set up because your not happy with the sound quality or it blows up on you.

There are several choices of brands or companies on this site that should help you make a choice. Look them up in the audio sections and do some reading and watch the videos. If you still have questions then ask.

Just my 2 cents and good luck with your choice

It doesn't really matter what you spend on amp and speakers. You'll still have the crappy head unit. The amp and speakers just amplify what comes out the head unit. If you want a REALLY good sounding system, start with the head unit. If you just want it louder, any decent amp and speakers will do that. If you want really good quality audio, you need to start at the source.

Just look at how many killer car sound systems still retain the factory head unit. That's the first thing to go. I did HogTunes and it sounds just as good...or bad...as the upgraded HD Boom system at 70MPH. I don't listen to the radio any more. This winter the plan is to replace the entire system.

My question is how good does your system really need to be when you are going 70mph out in the wind? I have a 180w J&m amp and boom 1 speakers and I get told by my wife that it's too loud a lot of the time, and I think the quality is just fine, maybe I'm just easy to please in the sound department?

My gripes with the HD head unit are....

1) You can't adjust the EQ (not talking about the simple bass/treble control)

2) HD, in their infinite wisdom, decided to automatically reduce bass as speed increases. They do this because at high volume, you would blow the stock speakers into next week if you didn't reduce bass. Unfortunately, at higher speeds is exactly where you need more bass.

3) Finding an HD tech that knows anything about the radio is just about impossible.

4) And this would solve everything above...HD has no way of contacting them directly. You HAVE to go through one their lame a$$ dealers.

5) Aside from the audio quality, there are a laundry list of other issued from streaming from media, Bluetooth connectivity, strange behavior on startup and the volume control not working on a fairly regular basis. Have to reboot the radio to get the the volume to work again. Honestly, the only reason it's still in there is because the GPS works really good.

I think I will look into Soundszcustomz, it looks like on their page that they have good speakers, Focal is a known brand in Europe. Thanks for the info.

Well said Brother Crumb

The head unit on the new bikes is good enough. Unless you plan on entering contests.
I run a
JL 400/4 amp
Hertz HCX 165 6x5 200W
Hertz 690 6x9 300W

Besides having top quality gear at Soundz, Pete has amazing customer service. He even went thru my entire self installed system at Myrtle Beach trying to track down a power drain for free. He stands behind his stuff and that means a lot to me.

Either 4.3 or 6.5GT head unit can get the job done... the key is a tech that knows his way around Digital Tech at HD and YOU know exactly what you need done regarding the flash....

There are plenty of us that have great systems with the stock head units and aftermarket amps and speakers.

Telling HD you need a flash for aftermarket amp/speakers is not enuf to get it done properly. Also... different systems will require different procedures for the flash from what I have read over the last year and a half

Can they flash a new EQ map into it and make it stop automatically adjusting bass? Dealer says it can't be done. The problem is that the dealer doesn't have a clue and I don't know what to tell them without talking to someone who does. It's cheaper to just replace the thing than take it to Reno to get a flash.
