I am in the process of building a twin cam. I am using a Darkhorse crank and want to put new crank bearings in the case. I am not doing the Timken upgrade.

I see that Jims makes a special tool to install the crank bearings. Is the tool required? I dont see why I cant press them out and the new ones in just like I would any other bearing.

Please enlighten me.

If not extremely careful, you run the risk of cracking the case halves when using a hydraulic press.
