Issue with Bike wanting to stall when hot

I have a 2016 Street Glide Special. I have been having an issue for a while where I would try to start the bike when it's very warm and it just wouldn't catch, would not turn over at all or I would get a strange error message where the odometer is that started with a V. It started at Rolling Thunder in DC and I was told by other Harley riders that the bike was too hot and that was the issue. It made sense.

I continued to have this issue and when I brought it in for the 20K service, I told the dealer about this and they couldn't replicate it. Had the issue on Saturday and it wasn't that hot outside (mid 80's) and I hadn't been in traffic so once I got it started, I went straight to the Harley dealer. They finally saw that there was an issue starting but they said it was the battery. I asked why they didn't pick up on this at the 20K service and they said it was fine then which is a whole other issue since it wasn't. So they replaced the battery, which had a hot spot on it, and the bike started right up multiple times and I did notice the difference with starting yesterday. They did say if I still have an issue going forward, there could be an electrical issue. Or there could be something that caused the battery to go bad. Battery has no problem charging once started so that eliminates a stator issue.

So yesterday, the bike started fine but after riding for a bit, when I had to stop at a ight, the bike was starting to stall. I do have the EITMS enabled so unsure what the issue is.

Has anyone had a similiar issue and if so, what was it? The dealer is fully booked until the end of August and I am having a procedure next week that cuts my riding season short so I can't get it fixed for a while but thought doing my own research might be a good idea.

I feel a good place to start is to check for any error codes then go from there.

You could disable “parade mode” and try to replicate the issue

Thanks. Decided to try some Seafoam just in case it helps while I figure this out.

Did you find the problem? I had this issue on my 2014 SGS a couple of years ago. Replaced the engine temperature sensor for about $40 and no stalling since.

Haven't been riding recently since I had brain surgery so will have to see how it is next season.
