LED headlight install

Received my LRS (Long Ride Shields) headlight today. I've been going through the install process, but have some questions.

It has the lit up halo, and it says it needs to be run to a power source. I took a pic inside the fairing, and there is a plug not being used. What's that plug for? Would it work? If not, where else can I tap on to so the halo will be lit whenever the bike is on? On the picture below, it is the plug on the left that doesn't have anything plugged in it.



Also, the new wiring harness the light came with has an extra pigtail that doesn't appear to go to anything. What's that for?

That blue female spade on the adapter is probably low beam. It could make a good source if you want the halo on only when ignition is on (not on accessory normally*)

I don't know what the random plug you showed is. If you have a voltmeter you can at least check if it's hot and if switched.

I plan on tying my halo in with the low beam.

*you can turn on your headlight while in accessory mode by pressing the high beam momentary button


PS not fair. I have a tracking number but according to usps mine hasn't shipped yet.

So would I just get a male spade connector and take those two wires from the halo, plug them in the connector, and then plug it in the blue female spade?

I don't know if this helps any?

You'll need to connect the black to a ground, which would be the black wire on the harness and headlight. If you want the halo on when in accessory that will take some more investigation to find a nearby source to use. I'm still figuring out all the power sources on this bike.

Don't worry after I posted I refreshed and mine has left Nevada so it'll be here fast!

I am so pissed, I'm ready to punch a midget. It doesn't work. None of it works. Not low beam. Not high beam. Not the halo sh!t. Nothing.

Edit. Went back and got the LRS back to stock without the halo wired up. Still doesn't work. Wonder if I got a defective POS?

I ordered a JW speaker 2 and high beam wouldn't work. It was defective. So definitely a possibility

You might want to check the fuse....the extra wire is on the HD LED adapter for when I installed my JW Speaker LED and wasn't anything to worry about. I think its for use on other bike models. As for plugging the HALO into a power source, the headlight harness is powered thru the ignition switch and has power all the time. I had a Kuryakin Halo I tapped into the same power lead as the low beam.

The plug you showed, one of several I beleive, is for the hidden antenna power. Some models of the hidden antenna actually had bayonet connectors for plugging into the cigarette lighter power.

Ok guys, I have some news. I called LRS and explained the problem. Guy tells me he's seen this before on the 14 and newer Harley. Says he will do some research and get back to me. Calls me and says he think he figured it out. The harness they include is wired backwards. Blue, when plugged in is going to black. Black is going to blue. It would of course never work. He said I could reverse it myself, or he could redo a harness correctly and overnight it to me. I opted for that option. Will let you guys know once I get it and try it out

Hold off on your install, until you read my latest post. You'll either need to change how your new harness is wired, or ask them for a new one

Couple things. I decided to remove the wires from the harness and have them match the colors of the wires from the light. Plugged it in, and it works! Decided to wire up the halo by running the red wire to that blue pigtail, and then ran the black to the black wire for the halo to the black wire for the light, and now the Halo works. I'll either keep the harness they're sending me as a spare, or I'll go ahead and swap it out since it will not have been monkied with.

Another thing... They have you reuse the Harley trim ring screw, but the hole they give you for the bracket is too small for that screw. You'll either need to drill and tap the hole, or get a smaller screw

Happy with the results, which is good because this was way more of a pain than it should have been. Who would have thought they'd send me a wiring harness that had the wires reversed, and a bracket with a hole that's too small for the screw they have you reuse for the trim ring?

Step 2: buy a multi meter for your next project! A meter can tell you a lot of information.

I've actually had a multi meter for a while, but assumed their own harness would be wired properly and didn't even think to check that they had the wires reversed. Live and learn, I guess.

Also I don't know if I was supposed to get one, but mine didn't include a h4 harness which is okay because I bought one from the dealership in preparation for this install. The headlight was wired correctly and that was plug and play. I didn't have any t taps to connect my halos so for now it's just the headlight, but that will be done this weekend.

Secondly the trim ring hole was not threaded. I believe the stock trim ring screw is a #8, which I will verify and tap today.

I got the lights aimed at least decently. I really like how the high beam is such an intense spot light! Her maiden voyage will be a rainy 0500 ride to work then I'll connect the halos and trim ring after work.

Yeah, they definitely have some refining to do on the install package, but luckily it seems like a good product at a fair price. Yours should have included the harness. I believe you have to tell them in the notes section when you order it that you want the harness, and then tell them the year make and model of the bike. Also, I'm sure it goes without saying, but you'll need to make sure you get your headlight aimed properly, by sitting on the bike and shining the light on a garage door or wall, and then adjust as per the manual

I never point my headlights at a wall for aiming. I want my low beam just below horizon so I aim them on the road. Passing lamps get aimed to the same point so that as much useful light as I have can shine down the road ahead of me.

Did you end up going for a test ride yet? How do you like the headlight at night and on the road?
