Mounting fairing speaker crossovers and relocating GPS antenna

I am in the process of installing my JM Corp 250W 2 channel amp and Focal 165 KRCs on my '15 SGS and need some suggestions on where to mount the right side crossover. The left side of the bike (next to the radio), has a perfect spot for the crossover, but the right side doesn't, due to the fairing glovebox obstructing that area. I was thinking about stacking and mounting both crossovers on the left side, but that would require cutting the woofer and tweeter leads on the right crossover and extending them. Does anyone know if extending the crossover leads beyond the factory length would pose a problem with sound quality? If I go this route, would it be best to extend the leads on both crossovers to the same length? As for the GPS antenna, I was thinking of using industrial strength velcro to attach it to the top rear portion of the fairing glovebox. The only problem (if it's even a problem at all), that I can foresee, is the JM amp rack covers the top of the antenna and I'm not sure if that would cause reception issues. Does this sound doable, or does the antenna need to be mounted completely out in the open? Any pics and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure about the crossovers as I had someone put my speakers in. As far as the gps antenna I put mine on top of the amp rack directly above the glove box, tucked back as far as I could. It seemed to get reception fine but I have not been out on the road riding yet. Btw I have the 180w J&m amp so I don't know if they are similar in physical size.

When we did my install the cross over was placed on the out side of the speaker pod between the audio rack and speaker pod there was just enough room. I think there was just enough room and it had double sided tape. Will see If I can find the install pictures.

Give that a look see I think those are the same speakers we put in mine. We moved antenna to the left as your looking at the bike from the front.

Just relocate the GPS antenna like I did in the pics... the 3m tape will still be good if you remove it with a putty knife

Thanks for the tips Crumb, TomA and Spazz. I think I have it worked out now as far as the GPS antenna goes. The crossovers are gonna be a different story. I think I'm gonna find some speaker wire and try extending the leads, so that I can stack and mount them both on the left side in the space that looks like it was made for the crossover. I've only been able to do a little at a time here lately due to work and family obligations. Funny thing is, I haven't even ridden the bike once yet. It was delivered to my garage by the dealership, where I immediately started disassembling it to install all of my mods. I will post pics here once the install is complete.

Left side xover fits in pocket next to radio... right side I zip tied into the harness to hold it... it was easier that way

I don't have a whole lot of pics of the amp and speaker upgrade at this time, but I wanted to share a tip with a few pics in case there are others who might be using speakers with crossovers. What I have done so far is cut and extend the crossover woofer and tweeter leads and installed Molex connectors on the the woofer and tweeter side of the crossovers to make them plug and play. The amp is also mounted with all of the JM connections readily accessible. This will save me lots of aggravation in the event I ever have to replace something.

For some reason I can't seem to upload but one pic at a time. Here's the modified crossover.

Looks good!

Thank you sir. I sure hope it sounds good, as I don't really want to dive too deep into the stereo. Just want it to sound great when I'm on it. How do you like your 165 KRCs? Do they offer a decent amount of bass, or are they just loud?

They are on the bright side for sure since they bottom out around 60Hz but the music being played truly depends on the amount of bass... I mean... a 6.5" (full range ) speaker will not produce the bass that most people want or expect from the Focal 165KRC's.. but no 6.5" does that can take the power either.

The clarity is awesome and crystal clear by every definition.

The crossovers are in place. I stood them on their sides and used industrial strength velcro to keep them in their new home.

Does anyone know if these Focals will clear the factory speaker grills? I can use the mesh grills if necessary, but I would prefer not too.

Does anyone know if the Focal speakers will clear the stock grill if the speakers are mounted on the outside of the pod?

I just added an ounce of loose fiberglass to each speaker pod, installed the speakers and test fit them in the fairing. Unfortunately they're not gonna clear the factory grills like I had hoped they would. Looks like I will be using the HD grills after all.

No... you can mount the speakers internally as you should anyway for clearance.... Focals need to be internal.....

You're probably right Spazz, but I just couldn't bring myself to modify the pods. Maybe if I had seen some in person, I would have felt a little more comfortable going that route.

It's really not that hard... once you split the pods open... look at them... then watch my video, holding the front half in your hand.. you will see.... I have faith in you...:p

Thanks Spazz. I watched your video a few times and while you did a fantastic job on your pods, I think I am gonna have to keep my speakers in the factory location. If I ever get rid of the bike, the amp and speakers will come off and the stockers will go back on and I don't want to have to buy new pods down the line in order to reinstall the factory speakers. My hat is certainly off to you though. I watched the other video of yours where you turned on your radio and walked around the corner from the bike. It sounded crystal clear.

Thanks.... I try....

You can still mount the factory speakers on the outside the pods AFTER the mods....it's not that big of a deal.... take the speaker out of the pod, put it together and mount the speaker externally... done....

It's not a permanent thing....
