Seat opinions

I've ridden on the stock seat on 2015 FLHXS from Oakland to my garage- about 45 miles, then immediately installed my Airhawk pad and the HD backrest on the bike and have ridden with that configuration for 11,000 miles. I simply will not ride without the Airhawk pad AND backrest. I have zero back or tailbone issues, no numbness or stiffness, and I have ridden for up to 2-1/2 hours straight- a full tank of gas. The thing is aesthetics. The pad doesn't look very good sitting on top of the stock seat. Especially since the black color is now sort of fading. When I was in Sturgis I was talking to the Danny Gray rep and learned they build Airhawk pads into their seats- cool. I recently checked them out online and I'm leaning towards the AirHawk Big Seat Solo with Backrest Receiver and a removable passenger pillon as I'm nearly always solo. I learned that these seats don't accept the HD backrests, so that would be $250 gone on what I have now (maybe recoup some by selling on CL or Ebay). So, I would have to buy a backrest too.
Now my concerns: As far as I have found, Danny Gray is the only one who puts the Airhawk in the seat. HD doesn’t make a solo Hammock or Zeppelin seat. I have been in contact with Danny Gray and after 4 weeks, I still have not been contacted to let me know how to purchase or how much the set-up will cost me. Not a good start when you want me to plunk down my cash on your product. Need some customer service here. I will use my raggedy Airhawk pad until it bursts before paying money to someone who doesn’t return my calls- that’s how I roll!

Excellent feedback. I am with you on the poor or non-existent customer service. They don't deserve your hard earned $. Thanks.

I sent my factory seat off to mean city cycles. The mod they did on mine was the "super narrow mod" after adding memory foam the lowing me 2 inches and back 2 inches it works perfect for me. Customer service is top notch

I am looking for seat and back rest recommendations. I have a 16' sgs with the HD standard sissy bar and docking. I'm 5'9 190 and the wife is 5'7. With the stock seat I have a 1-2" gap behind my butt and the seat back. What's the best backrest I can get. I'm am looking for something I can ride all day with. Thanks

I would look at a ultra take off seat and the adjustable back rest and see how that works for you. I have the stock seat with gel pad added and the adjustable back rest and love it. I only ride 1 u most of the time but if I was going to ride 2 up a lot I would do the ultra seat or the one that drops you down with you being shorter.

I have the HD seat backrest PN 52572-09A, and rider backrest mounting kit, PN 5289-09A. The seat back is adjustable (back, forward), with an Allen wrench. The mounting kit is adjustable- at the time you install it beneath the seat. It's very comfortable to be able to lean back against the back rest- a real back saver. They also make a backrest that's cable adjustable that some folks have but I have found that once you get the backrest adjusted to your liking, you're not really messing with it anymore. As far as seats, I'm in the market as well- I have the stock SGS brick slab. Hope this helps.

I have mine scheduled for March. I was advised that their "Memory Foam Modification" would best fit me. I am 5'9" and weigh about 195 lbs. any thoughts as to their suggestion for me, compared to what you had them do for you?

I would have the super narrow done. It will narrow the nose and help you stand flat footed easier. I was very shocked how much it helped

I have the stock 2012 Street Glide seat. I like the position it puts me in. I am looking for a seat with a little more comfort for me and the wife (she hates the stock seat). I was thinking of the Mustang Wide Tripper with passenger pillion. I like Mustang seats and we tried the Mustang Sport Touring seat. The wife loved it but it put me up too far and too close to the tank.

Not sure about the passenger seat but Mean City modified my stock seat and I am only slightly happier. I definitely agree that Mustang is not the way to go on the newer FLH's.
